When I owned a Jeep Grand Cherokee, I had a trailer hitch installed by U-haul. After some problems around the country with U-haul trailer hitches, Jeep sent me about a dozen e-mails telling me to take my truck to the nearest jeep dealer and have the factory one installed for free. So that they would not be sued anymore. The problem with the “the only way to get the bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun” theory....my dad was a good guy. He did find a gun at the wrong time. Fortunately, it didn’t work. If it had, his mental illness would have won. Mentally ill people aren’t necessarily “bad” people. But they make “bad” decisions. It makes MORE sense to keep weapons out of their hands. 🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊🕊 My dad was a good person. He was gentle, kind and responsible. I loved/love him. And.....he was mentally ill. He was scary at times because he was bipolar. The police could not do anything UNTIL He did something illegal. (And yes, they were called a few times) I am sick of people talking about doing more for the mentally ill...which they never do. If my dad had access to a gun, he likely would have killed himself or others. I don’t think anyone would deny people guns. People hunt and want protection. I get that. But it is common sense to do background checks and stop selling guns in red flag situations.

I tried to commit suicide a few years ago. I swallowed a bottle of klonopin because I didn’t have a gun. The difference: I lived. Thank god I didn’t try to buy a gun because nothing would have stopped me. I’m a model citizen. I really think people with clinical depression and/or bipolar disorder should be prevented from owning guns, and their family members must keep their guns locked up. (I’m all better now. Ketamine therapy cured my 20-year battle with depression.)

My question is where does an 18yo get the money to buy two Daniel Defense AR-15 rifles and a thousand rounds of ammunition? That's over $5k by my imprecise calculations. Did he put it on a credit card figuring he'd be dead and wouldn't have to pay? What 18yo has a credit card with that kind of limit? Pay cash? From what job/business? Where did the money come from? Katie Porter is an amazing woman. I love the way she presents her cases, how she arguments and the questions she asks. I wouldn't want to be the target of her questions. I still remember the trunk of her suv full of sacs of rice to make her point about the land some industry had bought to exploit it and that other time when she asked a high ranking bank person a relatively simple calculus question. He couldn't answer. She is a genius.

There is only one right way to begin to answer these shootings...take away the automatic weapons. "Recall them." There isn't much difference in the 18 yo or the 21 yo with an automatic weapon in pocession with the aim to kill as many people as they can. And there is no difference in that 35 or 75 either.
