Glad you're enjoying peeking at my stash. Cuir de Russie is an exquisitely beautiful fragrance, but we've never personally bonded. It's a very perfumed treatment of leather, more about the surrounding florals than animal hide. (I just put some of my sample of it on, and it's really gorgeous.) By contrast, Kelly Calèche is more sheer and dry, and not "perfumey" in the least. It smells like a combo of leather/tea/tobacco.

That's marvelous to hear! You're lucky to have a place near you that sells these indie perfume to indulge your passion & increasing curiosity. I do know what you mean by experiencing unfamiliar scent combinations as a brick of smell. It's like when you first meet a person: you just get a general overall impression, & a vague sense of whether you're drawn to them or not. The longer you know them, the more you discover their funny little ways and moods - all the nuances that make up who they are.

The second you picked up the Ultima II I just had this flash of, "I know that bottle! What is that?!" After some thought I realized it was the smell my mom wore when I was growing up and that bottle makes me think of the vanity in her room, the safe and cozy sanctum a little girl wants to be a part of. Thanks for showing it :)

Check out the Comptoir Sud Pacifique line - lots of variation on vanillas. Vanille Coco is the coconut one. And try Le Maison de la Vanille line. Also: La Vanilia Vanilla Coconut, Kate Walsh Boyfriend, Estee Lauder Sensuous Nude (a bit figgy/coconutty). If you have extra dough to throw around for niche perfumes, try Serge Lutens Un Bois Vanille and Bond No. 9 Chinatown.

@hilaphant I started to keep them in the fridge, but they were crowding out the actual food. Plus, I was afraid they would start smelling foody. The perfect solution would be to have a fume-dedicated fridge.

Hi Katie! I have to tell you that I frequently come back to your collection videos as my taste in fragrance changes. I've fallen in love w/incense frags after expanding on my love of amber, tobacco, & leather. I love your way you describe scent. You are exactly the kind of person I look for in a friend, intelligent, quirky, a little silly, & beautiful from within. You of course are beautiful on the outside as well:) Frag reviewing can be dull, yet you give it life & a spark that others do not;)

Prada L'Eau Ambrée is a gorgeous "subtle powdery" fragrance, but it's not in the bonkers sweet category of My Insolence. Another beautiful powdery one is Kenzo Flower - try all the different iterations, including the new Essentielle version. Also try Burberry Brit Sheer. It's not as powdery as the others, but it's subtle and is closer to the sweet fruitiness of My Insolence. Maybe sniff Vera Wang Princess, which is pretty light but sweet.

Great stuff! I just tried Kristiansand New York which is a relatively new fragrance from a new brand. Supposedly the perfumers behind it were a fan of By Man, which is now discontinued, and made it similar. It definitely is similar and is gorgeous! It's like a sweet, creamy, and powdery woods with a bit of citrus to brighten it up and some spice to keep it grounded. I definitely recommend it!

Ha-ha, that's a funny request! The books visible in my vids are vintage girlie mag/cheesecake anthologies (bottom shelf) and on the shelf above, Madonna's "Sex" book, books on pop cultural folkways and architecture by folk artists, books on Lee Miller, Evita Peron, and the history of London, and a history of Nova magazine. And there are glimpses of more books on various aspects of pop culture, interiors, .reference books and art monographs

I know this video is from way back, but can anyone offer a dupe for Ultima II Sheer Scent or know of a perfumery that can recreate this fragrance? I legit purchased this fragrance about 10x and it was discontinued many years ago. I would really love to be able to get it again or something very similiar. I have heard that the original men's cologne ( Lagerfeld Fahrenheit) came close to it but that scent has also been reformulated. I hope someone out there can provide me with some alternatives. Thanks for listening to me whine about my discontinue fragrance. Lol. Life's little pleasures.....
@KatiePuckrikSmells4 ай бұрын
The closest I've come to it is Dior Fahrenheit. I've got a bottle a few years ago, I'm sure it's been reformulated since the original version, but it still conjures Sheer Scent for me.

Great videos by the way. I like how you color coordinate yourself with the sourroundings. And you delivery is very sweet. Thanks. I have never found a fragrance by a celebrity that I care for. @Peregrine77 A huge part of our attraction to different perfumes is psychological. If we have positive associations with certain ingredients, or are at least familiar with them, we're more inclined to enjoy the perfume.

@Teewriter Haha - I don't intentionally color-coordinate with my decor - I must just like the same handful of colors! Gosh, I'm so with you on being mystified by watermelony wig-outs, perfume-wise. @BookofLifeCanada Hi Debbie - just seeing Lauren's name makes me smile. What a wonderful, genuine person she is! Thanks for giving my channel a shot. I just so happened to run into Diorling a few months back in London at the Roja Dove Haute Parfumerie in Harrods. They say they have Diorling exclusively, so that's where you should call/write. Katie, as always you are so entertaining. Thank you so much for going over your personal collection with all of us. I'm wondering what your thoughts are on Chanel's Cuir de Russie.. I've always wondered about it but because it's a boutique exclusive it's hard to find. Actually when I was reading over the notes it seemed like something you might like because of it's leathery qualities. Would be great to hear what you think of Chanel's "Beige" as well. Also have you tried Kelly Caleche by Hermes?

Lol @ the "sweaty armpit" line about cumin. It's true, but that animalistic, musky fecundity is kind of the reason why I like cumin in the first place! I miss your frag commentary! Hope to see you putting out videos again soon!

I love cumin too, it gets such a bad wrap. I was talking to my husband about this today, and wondering if I appreciate cumin in scents more because my Dad cooked with things like cumin, saffron and cardamom growing up, so I associate those notes with more savory elements. Food for thought.

If Coco Mademoiselle speaks to you, you should get it. I can recommend a couple others you might check out if you like that kind of thing: Laura Mercier Minuit Enchanté and Chanel Égoïste (the original, not the "Platinum" version). They're both dark, spicy/sweet orientals, and even though Égoïste is aimed at men, I think it smells great on women, too. I wear it myself (I have a small decant).

Realistically, you should use up your perfume as soon as you can (as opposed to saving it for a special occasions), because it will only last anywhere from 1-5 years. If you store away from heat/light, you'll eek more life out of them. In a "do as I say, not as I do" mode, I think that quality trumps quantity in a perfume collection. It kind of makes more sense to have a handful of fragrances that you love and get a lot of use out of!
