I genuinely thought it was all over in round 5. Couldn't see how she could win the fight if Serrano came out in round 6 and put it on her again. But Katie got back on track in round 6 and maybe Serrano should have gone all out for the knockout but for some reason took a round off. Big mistake. Katie started to box and move like the first 3 rounds and did enough to win. Great fight from both ladies. No trash talk, showed each other respect and did their talking in the ring. Amazing fight ladies!

Unfortunately for that theory boxing is scored round by round. Amanda out landed Katie by 30 punches in round 5. But other 9 rds were v even. In total purely by the stats. Katie outlanded Amanda in 5. Amanda landed more in 4. And 1 round was even. But dont let the stats get in the way of your story

Boxing works on a rounds system, not punches landed. Compubox gives two raw statistics (the other establishing Taylor was by far the more accurate), not a story. If we were to indulge punch volume logic, Serrano's numbers are heavily skewed from the 44/14 landed in the 5th - punches per round, Taylor landed more in five of the rounds, with one split. It isn't a gotcha either way though, as it's a single offensive stat that contributes to the story, with no account for fighting style, ineffective/effective shots, half the entire sport in defence... What I seen was Taylor took the first three, reaping particular success with the checking hook. Serrano warmed to the contest in the 4th and then rocked Taylor in the 5th. Clear as it was she took that round, she had shot her shot and (miraculously) couldn't drop Taylor, and (gassed or disillusioned) took her foot off the pedal, allowing Taylor to grow back into the fight, to then clearly win the final three 'championship rounds'. 6th Serrano, the 7th tough call but let's say Serrano. That's 6-4 Taylor. The only one in the Serrano camp complaining it was a draw was Jake Paul, a facepalm wrapped in skin. Teddy Atlas had it 6-4, he's trained 18 world champions, surely we can trust his judgement? Point of note, the DAZN commentary was jarringly biased towards Serrano (noted by Atlas amongst others), and the Mannix scorecard was risible nonsense. It was a thrilling, close fight between the P4P top two, and in my opinion, the correct decision. Katie does look to have lost a step of late with those 188 amateur fights in the tank too, the rematch may be a fight too far.

Even the rounds she lost (4). Katie looked like a beaten fighter from round 5 on. Trying to survive. To me, undisputed means, TO DOMINATE "without any room for doubt". The boxer who DOMINATED the fight from the start was, AMANDA SERRANO.

Yea, I thought the same thing. She seems to be more focused on the record-setting purse and what the fight meant for the feminist/women’s movement. I’m all for it but I didn’t detect the “eye of the tiger” that would want the win so bad that a loss had them dying to speed up time to the rematch. Eddie Hearn must have paid off the judges! Great fight and both fighters are true warriors but Katie Taylor lost this fight. She was dazed and stunned with her legs buckling numerous times especially in the 5th and 6th rounds. Credit to Taylor for showing heart and fighting through but she was defeated. Serrano was the aggressor all night long and landed the more devastating shots. Taylor ended up having to swing for the fences wildly and hoping for the best and then right into holding Serrano. Even with all that holding Serrano was able to land quick uppercuts to Katie's face and body. Serrano was effective to Katie's body all night. Taylor is a great champion but one judge gave Serrano only 3 rounds? That's ridiculous!!! It was a great fight but again another bad decision by the judges in boxing. All you have to do is look at the damage to Taylor's face to know who really won this fight but respect to Katie Taylor for showing massive heart in there.

I disagree, the majority of people on online live scoring had it 6-4 to Taylor, and at least two of those rounds were close enough to be draws so it's not inconceivable that one of those close ones could go one way or the other But as a score it didn't reflect how competitive the match was, I will say that, a 'wtf' kneejerk reaction is understandable. Looking dazed or taking a hellacious beating in a round or even two doesn't lose a boxer the entire fight unless they get ko'd. A standing count would drop them two points with a 10-8 round, but no standing count and it's still just a 10-9, one round, regardless of how one sided that round was. What Taylor does well is score and move in the quieter rounds, when her opponent is like Serrano and can turn it up a gear she can be put in trouble, but she's survived those storms somehow and still ends up ahead because of the work she did in the less intense rounds. Credit to both fighters though, it was a close one and the best women's fight of all time I would say.

Taylor won IMO. 6-4 in my book. Serrano gassed somewhat, after not getting the knockdown/out. That round for me is not a 10-8 round, it's a 10-9. Katie recovered which is well impressive, like Fury getting off the canvas. Both fighters were in virgin territory imo. Both dug so so deep that it made the fight so close in the last 3 rounds. I get some people think that Serrano dominated but she missed. A lot. Coming forward does not always mean you control the fight. The fight stats are actually on KT's side also. But stats do not paint the picture of the heart of each fighter. If you recover and comeback the way she did, you have my vote, especially when the opponent does not answer your comeback in a way that Serrano could have to close out the fight. Katie was shaken and Serrano could not get her out of there. I think Amanda fought a great fight but could not respond energy wise to Taylor's comeback. Referees were Italian, Canadian and American. Taylor was the under dog, the non American. Serrano moved to the States at 8 months old, so was on veritable home turf. It is tough to win on someone else's turf. Odds are against you. The commentary on DAZN was disgraceful, I felt. Mannix and McGaskill (who lost against Katie in 2017) could not bear to see Katie gain any upper hand. Again IMO. Yes, I am Irish, and a KT fan and a boxing fan, but I did think that Taylor lost the first Persoon fight. Without that bout, and fights like it, I think she would not have had the heart and depth to survive the pounding she got from Amanda halfway thru. If the fight was 3 min rounds Katie was eating canvas, I'd say fo sho. Two great champions. One great fight.

Absolutely correct, so many people dont understand the boxing techniques required to win. A boxer can be throwing lots of punches but if they dont land then they dont matter. Katie actually hits the target more often and will land single jabs in the correct place rather than fighting aimlessly. This is where her skills come in. It was the same with Persoon. People thought Persoon won but again she was brawling and not landing the punches.

I Blame Amanda's trainer for not urging her to be more aggressive when she had KT hurt. Amanda was either tired or thought she had the fight in the bag. I still think Amanda won but the golden rule remains YOU CANNOT LEAVE IT UP TO THE JUDGES.

@@rasher331 Katie got saved by the clock and 2 minute rounds. Everyone knows Katie got her butt wooped. I give KT all the credit for withstanding all that punishment and fighting through but she got whooped. Katie's face said it all at the end of the fight - the face of defeat.
