*LYRICS - Katie* (featuring Pat Kelleher) ------------ Tumbling curls of green By stained glass streaming light And the yellow colored lampshades Used to keep us up all night And the smile upon your face And the tears upon your cheek And the night sky on the window Your heart calling out to me Come running home again, Katie Come running home again Cross my heart and hope to die Shall I cause another tear from your eye The mirror that won't talk And your nightgown on the door The old pedal Singer* Just won't sing no more You can roll the reel for hours From the movie of this book It's a question mark upon this heart of mine Cause an elder back to look Come running home again, Katie Come running home again Cross my heart and hope to die Shall I cause another tear from your eye Now I'm looking through a tunnel Back into the room With the genius of a druid The sunlight floods the tomb And I'm never going back there And I couldn't anyway 'Cause though I made the great escape I never got away Come running home again, Katie Come running home again Cross my heart and hope to die Shall I cause another tear from your eye Come running home again, Katie Come running home again Cross my heart and hope to die Shall I cause another tear from your eye, Katie Katie (* Singer = A brand of sewing machine) Album: Hopefully a future album

My late mother had an 'old pedal Singer', black with gilt decorations, she used to make and mend our clothes. The cleverest of contraptions, it sat proudly on a wooden board supported by a black iron frame, with the brand name forming the cross bar above and the pedal, an iron trellis, below. It emitted a gentle rhythmic whirr as its pedal was pushed back and forth and its flywheel spun round. I remember in the early ‘70s a man coming to fit an electric motor to it and take the frame away. Sewing became faster and storage easier. But, as the song says, it didn’t ‘sing’ anymore. In later life my mother regretted having it converted, realising it had been a thing of beauty.

@@aodhanofailain My mum had one too. Used it until a few years ago, then replaced it with a Brother after it stopped singing. (Well, kinda still does, but not very well.)

This is what makes music so special in my opinion as a universal language, getting together from different continents and different generations. It was so special to be with you in Branson as our outstanding hosts and see your beautiful area in reality. Eternal memories. Your hard working ethic as a band is inspirational and watching you all growing into world class artists through the last several years makes me proud to be your friends both personally and in music. #Petersens: This is easily one of the very most beautiful songs I've ever heard. You guys have mastered your art and skill. Thank you and your guest, Pat Kelleher, whose voice complements so perfectly. We still have my mother's pedal powered Singer. She never converted to an electric; used this one her whole life. It traveled with her and my father from California to South Africa for 10 years in the 1950s, and back to California. Now it sits in our Vermont country entry way, unrecognized by most visitors, but still to hand should we ever need it. And my daughter, who with her husband will inherit this house passed down from my wife's father to my wife, has also learned to make it sing.

Probably one of the best Irish songs ever written. It paints a vivid picture of nostalgic longing and regret. Mr. Kelleher has a very soothing voice that fits the song very well. This is a lovely ballad, and I'm thankful for this introduction. The music and arrangement with the Petersens always brushes it's lips on perfection. Pat joined in the team and led it through the song with the rough hewn vocals appropriate to the song. Everyone played their part, from Katie's fiddling to Julianne's support vocals (she is really growing as a singer) to everyone else folding in wonderfully. As often happens with the Petersens, I was taken by the visuals, Katie's smile fighting to stay inside her mouth, Ellen's loving grin, Julianne bursts of pleasure, Matt and Momma's generally serious demeanor and Emmett, the consummate pro at all times. Honestly, this would be entertaining with the sound off, but why would I do that to myself. Thank you, Pat and the Petersens, for another wonderful performance. You make me proud to be a Patreon.

A very beautiful song with truly poetic lyrics, written by a brilliant Irish singer-songwriter, Jimmy Mac Carthy, little known, unfortunately, in the rest of the world. I believe that the author himself has never interpreted it, or at least I have not found any trace of it. This version, together with Pat's solo version, is one of the best ever. Pat's voice and guitar, Julianne's voice that masterfully sings the second verse and harmonizes in the choruses, Katie's fiddle and Emmett's dobro, together with the other instruments, make this poignant ballad something absolutely unique and sublime. This confirms, once again, that the Petersens/Ireland combination is something that works very well and always provides great performances. 🍀❤
