What an amazing performance. I play double bass classically but I've been practicing to play this tune's theme because it's just so satisfying to get right. Thank you for this incredible interpretation.

Wonderful! Thoroughly enjoyed this, and Katie's execution of that tricky melody and awesome solo were both terrific.

wow the timing in the beginning blew me away! Didn't even take a beat to get locked in. I guess that's what happens when the band leader plays a rhythm section instrument haha

Geoff, that bass of yours sounds so friggin' good. I'm continuously impressed by it. Remind me - what is it? The maker? And what kind of strings were on it in this video? I know people will point out that it's in Katie's hands, and she certainly did a great job. But I've heard her on other basses. And yours consistently sounds great. You've got a gem there.

Hi Robert, the details about the bass are on this page: discoverdoublebass.com/geoff-chalmers I think the strings KT had on for that session were a Oliv G, Helicore pizzicato lights D and A and a Helicore Pizzicato medium E. This is the set that Danny Ziemann used and it works really well. That said the bass sounds great with other sets on it too. I'm very lucky to have found it!

Geoff, thanks for all what you are doing for the double bass world, I wonder why you are not recording the double bass more from the mic because the sound is so piezoish (my taste)
@DiscoverDoubleBass4 жыл бұрын
In a small room with the instruments right next to each other there are limits the level you can get from the bass mic. Especially as we can't use screens due to the cameras.

@@DiscoverDoubleBass maybe you should invest in a DPA4099 for that kind of very close live recording situation ! It sound way better than any piezo ! Place it between the legs of the bridge and you will have a sound texture close to a piezo pick up (very focus and tight) but with a better mic sound quality with not so much bleed. Mix it with the condenser mic that i see in the video and it will be perfect. In my opinion what we see is a live band who play very close so it’s not a problem if you have mic bleed in the mix, it will even feel more natural for us to hear. Thanks again all your beautiful work with Discover Double-bass.
