@@avar7314 Actually, the use of both 'flautist' and 'flutist' can be applied to refer to someone who plays the flute. Both are correct and it doesn't make much of a difference in terms of which term you choose to use.

I remember when I first heard this in a rehearsal I was so shocked because I didn't know something could be this beautiful. I play trombone and I missed almost every entrance that rehearsal because me and the other trombonist were just giving each other looks that said "wtf how is this even possible." I kinda wish I didn't play, so I could just close my eyes and listen. You sound amazing. Keep it up.

In the state competition, it said I got second on flute. And even my band director recognized me in front of the band class that I got 2ND. And then on the program for All-State it said someone else’s name. First of all, it was early morning, and second of all, it was super cold in the school when I recorded and was told that they’d be recording me in ONE minute. So I didn’t have a chance to really play any notes on stage. I was angry and upset and depressed. I played on a Gemeinhardt which limited my potential and I didn’t have the teacher that was really teaching me the things I needed. I still don’t understand why that happened but I’m still kinda bummed. I was also reseated as 3rd chair flute in all state and before part checks I was 2nd chair and 1stchair BARELY KNEW HER PARTS. I was also super nervous in my part check but I thought I did good. The person that was originally first chair was then second. It made me mad because I knew my parts and practiced MY BUT OFF. My friend from school was first and she did really great, it’s just that I should have been there ://// she is still wonderful on flute, so I won’t go on.

Thank you for recording this, Katie. Your performance was perfect! I played this with the Massachusetts Youth Wind Ensemble WAY back in 1975 as a high school senior (but of course I had to learn it for auditions years before.) I didn't major in music, but when I hear wonderful flutists like you, I wish I had. I'll follow your videos. After many decades away from playing, I'm trying to get in shape. I have chronic illness, so I'll never get fully back. But I'd love to be able to play some of these pieces again and will rely on soloists like you as I hope to relearn much of this wonderful music. An interesting connection--one of your former teachers, Paula Robinson, was entrusted with MY former teacher's gold Powell, the Donna Heiken Flute, for Donna's honorary chair at NEC. Donna got her B.A. & masters at NEC. Jordan Hall was my music home in high school with 2 of my youth ensembles. Also, I got to attend just 1 of James Galway's master classes at Edinborough University in 1976. (I tagged along with my best friend who's also a flutist and paid for the entire session with him.) Small class, great guy, huh? Thanks again for this exceptional recording. I look forward to many more!

I am mainly a pianist but I often like to tickle the closed holes while blowing through the tube every once in a while mainly to record my own songs. I love the Chaminade piece. She was a great female composer. My flute is a hallelu student model flute that I got in 2014. I own a couple other wind instruments and about 5 or 6 guitars and a melodica. I think flute is probably my favorite woodwind instrument to play. It has the same transposition as the piano and the mechanics are pretty easy to figure out but to play something like Chaminade takes ages. I probably won’t play Chaminade since I mainly use it to record contrasting parts for the songs I write, but I think playing the real thing instead of just using virtual instruments is the most magical, pure kind of feeling you can get.I’ll probably pick an open hole flute since that would sound better and I can find creativity with the glissandos. Keep up the good work Katie. You are so inspiring to flute players and music lovers like myself.

Wow, your vibrato is amazing! How did you learn? I’ve been struggling with it for a while, to be honest, but you make it seem effortless! You play like Galway!

I guess practice and slowly improving tone etc. At least from what I know, there is no substitute to slowly acquiring control

One of the reason of her effortless play, is her flute, in a video she said that te quality of the flute help to have a good sound with a little bit of effort

Carlos Dubón Marcía the flute has an influence on the sound, but you yourself have a far greater influence, and you can do vibrato on any flute. It's first of all getting a good tone and control over breathing, your muscles everywhere etc. I often think for vibrato like I'm "painting" the tone or like I was shaking when I freeze. That's how to get the first impression how to do it and then you can start to practice to control your vibrato :)
