Thanks for including us in your top 10 Katie! We will definitely be checking out some of these other brands too! 💕

Another thing to keep in mind is that fast fashion is low quality, where as ethical brands will generally have far better quality clothes, so the price tag really balances out once you consider how long it'll last you!

I adore Lucy and Yak and I found them through you! I buy them mostly through their depop because I'm a student and it's a lot cheaper. Charity shops are my favourite places to shop and it's also a really nice way to spend a few hours just browsing

I crochet but have never been able to crochet my own clothes !! I’m not able to make my own patterns yet tho and all tutorials I’ve seen on KZbin for tops are either cropped or opened near the chest which I don’t feel comfortable wearing. Hopefully once I’m more experienced I can make my own :(

You guys should also check out Benthic Apparel. Their shirts are made with recycled plastic and fabric and on top of that 30% of their net profits go to specific not-for-profit organizations for ocean conservation. I just got one of the shirts and its very 70s retroey cute and comfy lol

yesss!! this was so helpful, I have been looking for cool second-hand brands. And even though some of them are not producers per se, sustainability is all about reducing waste !! I personally think that producing more product regardless of whether it's sustainable or not is still somewhat damaging, albeit way less than traditional fast fashion.

I buy allll my clothes second hand pretty much (except I did buy a reduced pair of Lucy and yaks in the sale) The managers in my local charity shops know me and last time I bought a dress from a charity shop in town that only sells vintage clothes, and the manager said “oh this is just your style, I thought of you when I was putting it out in the store!” It’s good because I’m also contributing to charities whilst also getting sustainable clothes for really good prices!

Great video! I hadn't heard of some of these brands and struggle to find UK-based shops. These are all on the more affordable side too and you don't have to ship from around the world. I checked out hundred club and it looks like they don't accept returns which is against UK distance selling regulations :( I've emailed them and hopefully they will update it but just a warning for anyone who wants to shop there! Update: hundred club have been in touch and say they will update their returns policy to comply with UK law. Yay!

So I’m kinda confused because (unless I heard incorrectly) the dress from sisterhood was 40 pounds, which, unless I googled incorrectly lol, is about 50 us dollars which is less than a Volcom or roxy dress. Those brands are considered fast fashion. So what deters people from buying sustainable fashion of it’s the same price what the heck
@katiejoslin15 жыл бұрын
Yeah the dresses on sisterhood are around £40 / £50 / £60 which is about the same as some more expensive fast fashion brands !!

THANK U! I needed this video so much. All of these brands are actually pretty cheap in my eyes. All the ethical fashion brands I found start at 60€ and more and it is so frustrating because I can't afford that. So again: thank u so much. U really helped me out

Loved your video! Thanks for the recommendations, but I would advise for everyone to be a bit weary of the moodss because they seem to be a brand that's copies so many designs from other sustainable brands like reformation, realisation par, etc, and when I asked them who their "independent designers" are, they just said "they are from Hong Kong" and refused to provide any other details. I think that if I were a brand working with real independent designers I would be proud to announce who they are, but apparently the moodss isn't. I hope that everyone can be a bit more cautious about who they buy from by asking more questions and making sure that you get transparency from these retailers. Especially these days, where sustainability and ethics is so trendy that many brands would want to jump on the bandwagon. Anyway, thank you everyone who has watched this and is trying to make the effort to move towards a more sustainable lifestyle!!🥰

Hi love the vid! However, the moodss seems like a dodgy company, stealing many designs and photographs exactly without credit or permission from small independent brands including for love and lemons, daisy daisy tv, reformation , Réalisation par, faithful the brand, Vanessa Mooney and rat and boa.

Fast fashion is exactly that - made in poor labour conditions, made with poor quality fabrics all so it can get into our hands quicker and cheaper. Whoever really wears that New Look neon green top anymore they got in the sale for £2. Thanks for sharing!

love this video and love that you're educating on sustainable fashion and showing how it doesn't have to be boring! I'm confused about the moodss though, because on their website it just seems like they've stolen designs from other brands and are selling them for cheaper? can't find any information on google about that tho ://
@lucy60345 жыл бұрын
i'm not sure but I have a feeling they might buy wholesale lots of realisation par/ for love and lemons/ faithfull the brand etc knock-offs from aliexpress type places or the same factories aliexpress use. just a theory!
@katiejoslin15 жыл бұрын
Yeah last year I couldn't find a lot of information about them so I asked them to provide some. As I said in the video, they do appear to use some fast fashion methods for some of their collections so out of all the brands I mentioned, I would say they are probably the least sustainable. This is a copy and paste from their email to me (and it's all from them so obviously I am just having to trust they're telling the truth): First of all, < Clothing > , our clothing line is divided into 3 categories, the first category is the holiday series, the skirt and boho top you selected are from this series, this is the series of cooperation with the larger companies, so in the stock, design, quality and picture are better. The second category is the designer series, this series is from the independent designers who we know. We will select a part of their items to upload the website, these styles will be more special, but there is a problem - the stock will be less, when you this miss time, basically, you will not find next time. The third category is the young series, which is the most recent series we have been preparing. ( the site is being updated, this series will be launched, and more new products will be available, then it will be completed in the next 3 days, you can see a new site in 3 days. ) This series is a series that we really participate in, and this series of cooperative ways is special. We are working with students at school or just graduating, because in the process of designing work, we realize that it is a very difficult process for most designers in the first few years or even longer. Their design is hard to be found by more people, but those are also the years when they need to be approved, so we decide to do this series to let more people understand and approve their design. We let these excellent young designers do the design, we are responsible for finding the factory to produce and of course, it's the process they're involved in , including the selection fabric and size. ( About the process of production, we all know that China is a big manufacturing country, and the mainland is the nearest place to HongKong, so we work with the big factories in China to take charge of production. ) The last part of the picture shows that we also let designers choose their own way of shooting, we think they should have more autonomy to determine what the clothes should look like, because these clothes are designed by them. Although the picture doesn't look as good as the designer series, but I think it will give them more space to learn, and we believe that this series will be getting better and better. For < Accessories >, we are still working with independent designers right now. Next time , maybe we will gradually touch some young designers. For the < home > Part, me and my boyfriend are both interior designs. When we were working, we were in contact with these things. So basically, the products on the website are all we chose and meet our two aesthetic. For the < gift packing > part, There are not many cooperation in this series, we only work with few studios and choose the pattern we like. The last, we hope our website is not only a shopping site, but also a platform for some unknown designers. We build this website not only we love design, but also we respect designers.
@lucy60345 жыл бұрын
thanks for that, that's interesting! so odd tho how in the designer collection they literally use realisation par's pictures on their website- seems sketchy as they're selling it for a third of the price lmao. please don't think this is a dig at you because it's really not I'm just suspicious of the brand cos they advertise a lot of stuff using big designers pictures, selling it at a fraction of the price, and it's stuff that can be found even cheaper on aliexpress etc. I could be wrong- they just confuse me a lot! @@katiejoslin1
