3 John 1-2 has been misinterpreted in many Bible teachers and Katie is no exception. Apparently she did not read further information about the word prosper in her Greek Lexicon. in this context of 3 John 1-2, it means “doing well” or “well,” having to do with everything in Gaius’ life. It’s not restricted to just finances. Actually the English translation of the Greek reads: “Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul.” I’m not saying God will not prosperous us financially but interpreting 3 John 1-2 as such is not the intention of John’s prayer to Gaius. Sadly, this verse has been the topic on many debates amongst Christians. A very important lesson for interpreting the Word of God is to handle it with careful and complete Hermeneutics(Interpretation of scripture) This resists the common temptation to spiritualize a biblical text in order to give it the meaning that we desire to preach. In other words, using esigeses, putting our own interpretation into the meaning of the text instead of exegesis, what the text is really means. This is no condemnation towards Katie but please be careful with who you agree with on scripture. Take good notes while listening and do thorough studying afterwards(Acts 17:11).
