1. Reading from the context of 1 Samuel 5-6 we read, God punished the Philistines with emerods/tumors/ boils, “primarily”becaose they stoled the Ark of the Covenant, not because they worshipped Dagon. 2. Kate’s analogy of people getting cancer because of idol worship is worthy of much discernment. In fact it’is an insult to my late mother who died of colon cancer. She was a wonderful Christian and doesn’t fit Katie’s analogy at all. I read the following quote from a medical article: “I implore you to live a healthy lifestyle and stay away from foods and drinks preserved with chemicals. And, stay away from many body creams and cosmetics that contains heavy metals which could be carcinogenic.” Sounds like cancer prevention to me. 3. Yes Jesus’ death on the cross was for our physical and spiritual healing. However, there is no biblical evidence to Katie’s questionable analogy about the crown of thorns. They symbolize Our Savior and King’s suffering and humiliation by his tortures not what Katie interpreted out of Joshua 22:13. 4. John 6:53-57 Once again in context. Since the people are resistant to the ideal of Jesus as a “spiritual Messiah” they are hung up on the physical idea of Jesus' flesh. As Jesus continues to explain His role in salvation, most of those following Him will choose to walk away, as shown in the last verses of chapter 6. Hmm.. no reference showing those who left did so because their ancestors worshipped idols. Let me stop here because there is so much more I can biblically critique. I agree that communion is a biblical way of receiving healing because of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross. A continuous idolatrous life style can have severe consequences on one’s relationship with God and their lives physical. However, I’m concerned Katie is not using the Bible contextually for her teaching. Therefore, I encourage my brothers and sisters to stay discerned and in the Word( John 4:11; Acts 17:11: 2 Timothy 2:15.
