The lecture was held during Stocktaking Part 2 -- "Critical Positions" -- in September 2010, and relates to the overall theme described below.
During the last decade there has been a lively discussion on architecture and its possibilities to act critically. The concept "operative criticism" (the use of history and theory in an operative way), coined by the historian Manfredo Tafuri, could be seen as a point of departure in these debates. Tafuri has been widely criticised and new standpoints have been formulated, such as the idea of "post-critically".
The half day seminar "Critical Positions" will discuss the contemporary possibilities for architecture to be critical as well as projective, and the conflicts that could emerge in the tension between critique and production.
