Good video footage! What a trip of a lifetime being immersed with all those brown bears. Awesome! I was kind of suprised that you had tuna for a meal. I just returned from a bear tour over in Lake Clark NP, and was told we can bring food, but we couldn't bring any type of seafood (salmon, tuna, sardines, etc.), that might arouse the interest of the bears (since they eat seafood). We were told we couldn't even wear clothing that we might have used for fishing, because it might have the smell of seafood on it!

How is your bear camp monitored at night ? Do you have armed humans monitoring in addition to electric fences ? It looks like you cook by your tents: do the bears show interest in the food odors ?
@kodpvd
@kodpvd Ай бұрын
Yes, we have a bear fence around the entire setup. We do not take weapons with us to Katmai. We bring cans of bear spray as defense. The food is kept in a bear proof locker outside the fence. We do cook and eat inside the fence, but dispose of waste in the locker. There was plenty of food in the basin for the bears and we did not have any issues with our food and bears. We did have one curious bear walk by our camp, but he did not stay long.

Amazing video! I cleaned up after grizzly and can confirm bear poop wherever they want to 😅. I know it will most likely be messed with but any way to add a size reference to the videos? I don’t think people have any idea how big these beautiful bears are in person. Perhaps an stick/oar/? with small cardboard cutout of 5’5” (person) 6’ (Boar at shoulder) and 10’ standing up on 2 legs. Perhaps this is too interactive but your boar on the grass looks impressive! Great question! We carry bear spray to curb negative interactions. We are very cautious and let the bears come to us. We respect their space. The interaction with the first bear on the beach is typical. They will notice you and come check you out. I didn't show the full interactions with the other bears, but it was similar. Some bears are more social/curious than others.
