I still use the Kinematics between the Kato cars. I used the Kadee #451 kit (designed for Kato cars) to connect to the locomotive.

Wish there was a Kadee coupler adapter for the Kinematic couplers. I found a way to attach a Kadee coupler to them, but even the "short shank" Kadee coupler is too long and leaves a gap between cars. Guess I'm going to have to hack the Kato coupler bars apart so I can mount the Kadee couplers to them at the proper distance.

It looks to me that that car is set up for easy mounting of a NEM type coupler. Using the NEM type pocket would be superior to use the Kaydee coupler mounting. This is because with the NEM type as the coupler moves off- center it grows in length. This allows close coupling while accommodaing sharp turns without cars baninging together . This is an NEM coupler and pocket for a Rocco www.eurorailhobbies.com/product.asp?mn=4&ca=76&sc=HO&stock=R-40343 (could not find good pics of how these work, but only mounting is different) . If you look towards the top of the image you see what looks like an arrow pointed to "center" . As that arrow moves off center the coupler pocket (not the coupler) extends in length . Kaydee has couplers that fit these NEM pockets and the NEM pocket is superior for that reason. www.amazon.com/Ho-Nem-362-Coupler-Center-2PR/dp/B000AM8S0C . In this case I could consider the Kaydee pocket to be inferior. to the NEM pocket. I would NEVER forgo an NEM pocket over a Kaydee pocket.
