Thank you for featuring Katrina. This is my all time favorite of the different medleys she has done as it's in the original key and highly detailed down to the smallest adlib, riff, run, phrasing and breaks. Once she is confident she has nailed the original, she then begins stylizing the songs with more of her own signature while keeping the parts the audience look forward to hear. Later performances of this medley are different from this version starting late 2018. She is also a a brilliant vocal arranger which really helps in making her covers more interesting if not at the very least, as awesome as the originals. To the untrained ear, which I am, there are times when she does what appears to be a straight belt, but after a third or forth take you realize there was a riff or run. Katrina Velarde is a vocal BEAST and she should be an international superstar household name. This medley here is probably as close to Whitney, as any singer on the planet. Watch her very early beginning when she was still a child in a national television contest, Little Big Star. Unfortunately, for some reasons she lost as she did not win any major singing contest in the Philippines. She sang another Whitney Houston in this ancient in this video. By the way, joining amateur singing contest is the voice training ground of most Filipino singers as they can't afford expensive music schools. Also, joining singing contests provide food on the table for their poor families. Morissette Amon, Marcelito, Jona, Regine Velasquez, Daryl Ong, Lani Misalucha and KZ Tandingan all started from humble beginnings and this make them even more admirable.
