This is probably as close to the immortal Whitney Houston as any other singer ever. Katrina Velarde is a vocal beast and not only that, she is a superb songstress and technical master singer. She should be an international superstar, household name. FTR, I am a retired professional music critic with 45+ years experience. I saw Whitney, Celine, Mariah, etc., live, in their Apex elite prime and Katrina is in their class.

all i'll ever say to something like this is, "AMEN! preach on, my friend!" you're most definitely right...her skills alone are insane, but her ability to perform & sound as consistently solid as she does live are really the things that do me in, ultimately. katrina's next level on that basis alone; a lot of the legends, including some you mentioned, never could or have had that same precision & ability, sustained for so many years. sing on, queen katrina! i hope she continues to slay this year. ♥️

please, please, please, please...continue on with katrina! she'll not disappoint you. i'd love to see you react to her singing "somewhere over the rainbow"...any version would do, really. katrina's the most consistent live vocalist i've ever heard in my life. she also does a mean cover of jessie j's "mama knows best" one take version, as well a beautiful rendition of "reflection" from mulan, both found on her official channel. THANK YOU for all your comments after! refreshing to hear a true fan of whitney's take on this for once. i was also pleasantly surprised she only touched early whitney sans the last song, i suppose. ♥️ she does another whitney medley of all the songs you'd kindly expect, but it's still pretty freakin' epic. also, GG is an absolute living goddess; love that woman. if you haven't heard of shoshana bean, i'd highly recommend you check her out, but i feel like you may be familiar with her. if i'm wrong, her & avery wilson's rendition of whitney's "saving all my love for you" is stellar.

I like Belinda Davids a lot too, she is another relatively underrated Whitney tribute act. Saw her live in my country and I felt so so emotional. She has been doing a world tour for years, and each time she sings 1hr 40mins or so of Whitney songs - including the most difficult ones. I'm amazed at hoe she does it

The singing competitions at a national level are tight & tough to win. The 2nd or 3rd placers could easily be champions. The most popular singing competition is Tawag Ng Tanghalan which started in the 50s. If you can clear a Regine song, you have a big chance as her songs are tough. Thus a new breed of singers is born. it's these recording companies that are pushing songs that are veey simplistic and repetitive, easy on the ears, because it's easy to find artists like that and nowadays it's very easy modify and edit their voices post production, that's why audience preference for music especially in the west are ao dumb down that they don't care about songs like these anymore. they don't want ballads and amazing vocals because labels don't give a sh*t about artistry anymore. it's ALL ABOUT THE MONEY these days.
