I’m extremely disappointed about who was picked & how it was a popularity contest not a true talent based competition. This performance shows that they lack real emotion when performing & the vocals for most* of them were just “okay”. Overall I won’t be following them further. I figured I’d see what they’re like now since I just finished the doc but the group that formed Katseye is not anything special

I feel so proud supporting katseye from the very beginning. trust ne katseye will even be growing, and touch is the beginnings of that, I saw it in tiktok growing, then to spotify having half million daily streams and their social media growings as well, which means they are being introduce. and their debut album is yet to release. ah also they recently reach 1.1Million monthly listeners on spotify with just 2 songs 🔥

i think an underrated value of kpop to the western world is how foreign it is. we dont know how cringe the lyrics can be etc lots of other things that seem more obvious to someone looking at their own culture. Katseye has so much talent but i just dont see the demographic showing up for them yet because it wasn't really something the market wanted. it's gonna take lot of hard work and constant promotion to grow, i just hope they're given the time to make it

The disconnect is the west likes kpop and sees kpop in its on genre. Kpop is known for their animated concepts, Kpop groups are like 80% dance 20% vocals. In the west when it come to groups we don’t want to settle unless we are getting the groups we had in the 90s -2000’s era. We want each member to be able to hold their on vocally we want different textures, tones, strong vocals, not extreme dance but strong dancers, diversity. I feel when it comes to katseye they called them a global group and marketed the to a kpop audience which is now going to put them in that lane in the west so they won’t be seen as global here regardless of how they look and where they come from. They have that kpop label on them now. They would have too do a total 360 after the ep to attract the western market. I feel xg is going through the same phase they are super talented and each song is a banger!!! But they also have that kpop label on them…so the western market don’t see pass that. It’s like kpop is sharing their toys with us….we love and support it but we know it’s not our at the end of the day so we give it back….leave it there.

XG sadly don’t do that much American promotions, so I get why they might not have been able to break through being seen as kpop. But feel like if they promote katseye well and promote mostly in the US I think it’s possible. On top of that Katseye has a Netflix show coming out and the title of it has the name Pop star, not kpop star. So I think with time they will be known a pop group. Idk how famous they will be but I don’t think they will be seen as fully kpop in my opinion, I could be wrong though.

The only way I see them succeeding in the west is going back to the drawing bored meaning….new stage coach’s, new training vocally that is number one priority! As group and individually. New concept, new vibe, I would bring in a new choreographer. I feel they only went the kpop formula route because of yoonchae’s age if she was older this roll out would of been different in my opinion. I feel the kpop formula was a safe way to get the girls out there before it was to late. Because in kpop it’s ok to debut young girls in a group of age appropriate girls but in the west it’s not. There’s so many limitations that’s why they can’t promote in America like that. Because you have to be 18-21 to get into most places.
