That ending scene with the Aborghast getting torn apart and all of the stuff with Naomi narrating has one of my favorite pieces of music in the show. I feel like the score isn't talked about enough, but man is it absolutely brilliant the whole show. I've started reading the books, and I listen to the soundtracks for all three seasons as I read through them

The Aborghast's disassembly has to be one of the best scenes in the whole series. I keep coming back to it every once in a while along with the speed limit change incident to remember how amazing this show is.

The name of the research ship---the Arboghast---is a reference to *Detective Arbogast*----the cop who Norman Bates killed in the 1960 thriller Psycho, because he got a little too close. The writers have a macabre sense of humor.

It is so amazing, that Kat and Sonny pick up immediately, on the idealism of Holden vs the realism of Naomi. This is what "Caliban's War" is about. It is reflected in many characters (re-watch if you need to, I did lol), that the war is between those of idealism and realism. The beauty of the show, is that neither wins. Holden comes from privilege, and wants to joust against windmills (Quixote), in a nobel endeavor; while Naomi has a more immediate, practical, and sometimes scorched earth realism (because it has to be). The comparisons continue...Alex and Amos, Chrisjen and Sadavir, and those who start on one perspective, and transition through, to another (Julie, Miller, Drummer, and of course, Bobby). Everything might be grey, but it is the interactions of these human perspectives, that make the murky grey interesting (even creation and destruction, from the proto-molecule)..

Humourously in the books, Bobby's power armour is in crate labelled Formal Wear haha. As far as the explosive, remember back to the first time bobby encountered one on Ganymede, and right at the end, the drone flashed a light, and bobby sees a big flash of light, that was the failsafe device I reckon. Interesting cameo, not sure if you are familiar with the show Mythbusters, but Adam Savage from Mythbusters is a huge fan of the show, and he was one of the crew of the Abhorghast. You have to love the prop guys on the show. The pod Mai is in, is a roof rack box for a car :D Great reaction, looking forward to your season 3 reactions after Kat's studies are finished. Good luck on your thesis.

The narrative tension never lets up. You cannot guess what direction this show is going in. Liked the "steely-eyed man of science" line...Prax was so quietly proud & then Amos heads through the scene like a bull in a china shop. Those characters contrast so well.

In 1969 flight controller John W Aaron saved the Apollo 12 mission after it was struck by lightning after liftoff, leading colleagues to dub him "one steely-eyed missile man." Alex's comment about Prax has to be an homage Easter egg.

Notice that the hybrid is in a fetal position when it's "consuming" the radiation sphere. The logical part of your brain knows it's just a creature of instinct, but that scene puts a little bit of doubt in your mind on whether there's still a bit of a kid in there.

No. If you remmeber, how Holden was grewing up, you will understand why he does, what he does. His moms and dads thought him to be a leader, who have to fight against a superior power. We are white(right), they are black(wrong). His hole childhood he was under pressure, because of that he left his home.

Dresden wanted to learn how to harness the Protomolecule to enhance the human condition. But the Protomolecule has repeatedly shown that it is enormously more advanced than humanity could dream of being, this episode being a prime example. The Protomolecule can communicate instantaneously with its many parts over insane distances, it can generate or negate gravity with neither thrust nor spin, and it can manipulate inertia to, as JPM put it, turn an asteroid into a guided missile or deconstruct a ship down to its rivets in an instant. Both Naomi and Korshunov both pointed out that new technology is always applied by humans as a weapon. So if humanity ever manages to master the least of the Protomolecule's bag of tricks, we're all doomed. (This moment of buzzkill brought to you by the number 6 and the letter Y.)

Yeah, this episode didn't feel like a real ending to me either, more like mid-season finale. And there is a reason for that of course. We are in the middle of book two and a point in the story that doesn't offer big moments. At least compared of what will happen next in the second part of the book all of what you have seen so far is not that big. But the rules of dramatized TV required to end the season with something big, and so the writers had to blow up the plot to feel bigger than it actually is. And the writers did a good job, but they couldn't hide the fact that the season two finale doesn't resolve anything (except for the protomolecule sample side plot, but that is not that big compared to what you are about to see next) as you would expect from a season finale. One of the very few and early problems of the show rasies its head again. The world building has been a bit slow at times, and the writers weren't given enough screen time to conclude book one in a single season. That has left season one with a "somewhere between act two and three" ending that served it purpose, but had to be blown up a bit too to meet expectations. The actual finale of book one then happened somewhere in season two, and now we are at the end of season two and the plot is at a point where it cannot offer a really strong conclusion to season two. The end result is that the mid-season finale of season two feels a lot bigger and more rewarding than the actual two season finales that we have witnessed so far. I have to admit that I was not that eager to watch season three. After the season two finale I was a bit tired of waiting for the things to come. I had the feeling that the writers were dragging it out, and they probably did to fit everything into the typical season format, just that their plot was "out of sync" with that format by a couple of episodes. Anyway, my expectations for season three were not that high even though I had heard lots of great things about it. But when I started to watch it, I was blown away immediately and watched the conclusion of book two in one sitting. And then watched it again two times over the same weekend because it was so good (and because I had reached book three and the long wait for the next episode). All that world building is gone in season three. The players are in position, the stage is set, now it's time to play the real game. Season three is actually two big finales with just two or three "transitional" episodes inbetween, and the writing becomes even better. The first season might have been stiff at times, in the second season the writers became comfortable with the plot and the characters, but in the third season they dance effortlessly between drama, humour, world building and character development, and they do it at an incredible pace without every losing sight of the plot and the characters and details they have build up over the two previous seasons. It's too bad that you have to take a break from The Expanse because I believe that between every show that's on your list, season three of The Expanse is the one that you'd really want to watch if you had an idea of how good season three really is. But if you really have to take a break, do it now so that you can watch season three with the attention it deserves.

Great reaction guys. Loved Kat's drop the ball comment. Don't know if you plan to read the books but a lot more details in there about everything including as I see another follower commented on the "Husk" failsafe device. If Holden and Miller can survive a massive radiation exposure I think Cotyar might be able to survive a bullet wound. You cut out one of my favorite scenes when Chrisjen tries to shoot Bobbie in her armored suit and Bobbie says "Very good madam". No big deal can't have everything with only 10 minutes of video time. Kat good luck with the Thesis. Looking forward to seeing your season 3 reactions when you can get back to it. Sonny no expanse reactions without Kat!!!! >Amos revealed a central factor of his personality when he thanked Holden for always trying to be a good man. Amos whats to be on the "right side," but depends on others for moral leadership because he knows he can't make correct moral decisions of his own. He actually feels grateful to have found a good moral compass. >Holden's insistence in not choosing sides blinded him to the fact that he's the only one with that attitude. Naomi has made it clear that her sympathy lies with Belters, and Alex is not without strong attachment to Mars. >That "loose" warhead they just happened to have on the Roci was the warhead they'd removed from the protomolecule torpedo. >Regarding the protomolecule torpedo, remember that just as the Somnamblulist lifted from Ganymede and was challenged by the harbor master, Naomi was checking out the torpedo on her screen. That was the moment she sent the coordinates to Fred Johnson. >As Kat noted, Strickland had Mei on a moon of Jupiter. If you Google pictures of Jupiter's moons, you'll see it is Io. >We had to wait a year for the next episode.
