I just want to acknowledge how the actors still managed to give an exceptional performance despite the presence of language barrier in the show. It’s so beautiful and interesting hearing all these different languages all together especially in an international show like this. It definitely adds a certain depth and richness to the overall story. I also love how this show represented and embraced different cultures and languages all together. The language barrier amplified the central mystery and plot of the show. Definitely my show of the year ❤

I love they casted the actor who played adult Jonas (im glad that I was right that its him) in dark as the captain also it soo nice to see Kat back :) anyway after 2 episodes i'm hooked to the show since they say the ship was lost 4 months ago ... but when you see how it looks its like its been out at see for years

I just found your channel because you are watching 1899. Im so happy to see people reacting to this. It was also really cool to see your faces when all the Danish speaking was going on. I love the multilingual characters and how that affects what people know or don’t know. It definitely plays into the class hierarchy going on on the ship.

The show is brilliant and intriguing to the very end. I'm hoping for the second season as I need some answers. I'm Polish and like you I was somewhat surprised by hearing the Polish spoken, and again like you I was reading subtitles even if I understood what Olek was saying. Great reactions and Kat, congratulations on noticing the earrings pattern, I did too and for some reason was extremely proud of myself :)

The very first thing I noticed about that character was her earrings. Not strictly because of the triangle shape but because that fashion, Art Deco, didn’t exist yet. Art Deco was a response/following to Art Nuevo which is what her high society, rich character should be wearing as a status symbol. Art Nuevo was all curves characterized by natural shapes - stylized flowers, flowing waterfalls, etc. Art Deco leaned heavily into these geometric shapes. And no matter how cutting edge fashion Clemence is, Art Deco shouldn’t be available for another 10 years or so.

NO SPOILERS: I just finished the final episode and it was fucking amazing. Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar are absolute madlads and did it again. I don't think anyone can predict the ending based on the information given during the course of the show. It definitely wasn't as big as a mindfuck as Dark was, still perfect though.

Pure mental bonkers... 😧😲😯 1899 is a mashup of several genres, shows, films. And then some... And I heard you guys are happy that Kristian Harloff is loving Dark so far. A little bird told me... 😉 Ling Yi's comments about knives is the funniest moment so far in the series...

Welcome back Kat! I wasn't even aware of this series. I watched the trailer and saw the ships and older Jonas and was like, I'll check it out. I was really surprised by all the different people and languages. The ghost ship thing is pretty fun. Hard to know what the series is really about from this first episode but it's set up a good mystery. Oh the intro reminded me a lot of Arcane's intro. I don't remember if you guys have seen that or not. But highly recommended.

It is such a nice throwback to have both of you reacting to this. Congratulations. I love my niece and my nephew but I was always glad when I could go back home and have a good night's sleep. It is so interesting that different people recognize their mother tongue in this. And Danish of all the languages. I think I had most trouble with the Danish. Except for the Polish. Is it even Polish? German is my mother tongue; I learned English and French in school; Spanish at the university; managed to get along in Portugal speaking Spanish with a weird Portugese accent; and I also tried to learn Japanese and Mandarin. Which was enough to figure the issue Virginia has at 14:55 btw.

The showrunners have stated they have a full gameplan for 3 seasons again, just like Dark, and that they already know the ending they're aiming for and the revelations necessary to get there. In an interview recently, they also stated that they intentionally planted decoys in the plot to distract and fool Dark fans that expect the story to follow similar beats.

I just started the show, I finished episode 1 today. I had the same thoughts as you, it's very Darky, even in the soundtrack. So far, there are many questions and no answers, but of course that has to be the premise of such a show. I was interested in the serie only because you guys react to it, it's been a while we saw the same. Also there is a mythical board game Unfathomable about a steam ship getting in trouble. Mist, monsters, etc. Looking for inspiration for that too. Without any clue about 1899 i will have my eyes open for: cultist, time travel, aside with the usual character background possibilities. Also if the doctor a seer, he's brother and father might also learned, got affinity to mystical powers, woodoo/runes/something....
