This is a very rare set of 5 Union Pacific passenger cars by Katsumi, US Mail & Baggage Combination Car, Pullman Car, Dining Car, Dome Car, and Observation Car with antenna & wrap-around end. It seems various importers imported these Katsumi models, they turn up with Westside, Balboa and Ted's Train House. Which may have just been a hobby shop?
I bought this set new in about 1980 for $250. (about 1200 in todays money) And when they turn up they go for about $200 on Ebay. So not a great investment. However brass models have not held their value well in the 21st century...
They are good models, well built and painted. No interior or lights, this was left up to the individual modeler.

Wow!!! Ted’s Engine House...used to be in Pennsauken, N.J. I’ve spent a lot of money there. Teds closed many years ago. He was a nice guy. He had an old fashioned hobby shop. There was good stuff everywhere in that shop. The hobby lost a piece of history when he passed

I’d love to finish putting these things together. One time I would fit them with diaphragms, Walthers diaphragms. They were never that good and then they fell off. But now there’s some really great ones on the market. And I need to put the chairs in there

Ted's Engine House was a hobby shop in New Jersey. That I remember he was a shop and also did a lot of mail order. He advertised in both Model Railroader and Railroad Model Craftsman. If you have issues from the 60's thru the 80's I think you should find his ads.I Most brass models up to the 70's were just brass with(and sometimes without) trucks. "Glass" windows and interiors didn't start to get added until later(late 80'e-mails early 90's). As plastic models started getting better(detailed underbodies, separately molded grab irons, thin metal roof walks, etc), it put the brass manufacturers into a position of having to put more details on their models. If you really want to see detail look at some of Rapido's models or in brass anything from Overland. Those plastic seats that were in the box kind of look like either Cannon or Rix's(I think) from the 80's. Some of the companies importing KTM that I remember seeing ads for were Hallmark in Texas, Pacific Fast Mail(PFM) in Seattle and Westside in California. There may be others. If I were to guess I would think these cars were from the 60's based on the a quick look. Lastly I make these comments from what I remember of 40 some odd years ago and as my memory had proven me wrong on too many occasions don't take my comments as gospel(ie this is the legal disclaimer to say these comments are me with too much time on my hands and otherwise throwing my 2 cents worth in, or otherwise just screwing around) Thx again IGN

I had a nice HO layout as a kid I had a Union Pacific steam locomotive 807 with atleast about 30 or 40 + ho cars. I also had a Union Pacific sd45 and the Jupiter ho steam locomotive.

I recognize the track plan of that model railroad club you mentioned towards the beginning. It’s the Pasadena model railroad museum. I just joined about a month ago. Still the same track plan after all these years!

With you being such a fan of UP equipment should look to take a vaca to Green Bay, WI. They have an Amazing Rail Museum up there that includes a British Locomotive and cars that were for Dwight D Eisenhower in WWII, a GG1, about a dozen steam locomotives in various states and (of course) a Big Boy, but specifically in relation to this video they also have an un-restored UP Visa Dome car from the late 50's early 60's. I got the chance to walk through it and take pictures late 2017 and it was amazing! If interested, I could send you an email with some of the pictures I took while there.

It's always a treat to see what you kids find after it has been stored for so long. A really nice set. As for this old guy, the days of HO are gone for me. Not that have a problem with it, can longer hardly feel it in my hands. I wonder what the odds are finding the rest of the cars? As always a great episode. Greg and Jeanne

Wow Toy Man, you once again reach into the archives of the Toy Man Attic to pull out a Gem. And once again showing off from my home city the Union Station where Milwaukee shared with the Union Pacific train station in the Great Pacific Northwest city of Seattle. It was neet to have both stations side by side, King Street and Union Station, so all the trains came together in one place. And for history sake that is the Smith Tower in the back ground, once upon a time, the tallest building west of the Mississippi. What a record, Eh! But love all those old brass passenger trains of yore gone by. Do you have any more? My railroads were the Northern Pacific and Canadian Pacific, and I do have some great CP brass passenger cars of years gone by that I got from Railway World in Vancouver BC. If anybody remembers Arthur. Thanks for some neet remembering.

Omaha had two grand stations as well that shared platforms. One the Union Station. When I saw them last in total disrepair. Homeless people living in them. Tags over tags. Every square inch spray painted. Sad!! We have a union station now a mall and the D and RGW station now the Utah historical society

Union Pacific used many smooth sided aluminum body cars in the City Fleet including all of the domes which were American Car and Foundry products. I loved Santa Fe passenger trains, but after experiencing the City of Los Angeles with dome dinner, I became a City enthusiast.

Yup!! In all forms. PS, UP is selling off about half of theirs. they have over 100!! They run about 50 of them. But only need about 30. At times they have had 2 full trains out. In 91 they sent 2 trains to Rail fair. One pulled by 844 and 3985 and the other by the E units! Each had about 20 cars on them. But 100 cars? I can see why they are selling of most. Most are in Omaha. But many are around. Some in Cheyenne. Some in maintenance of way.

Definitely Katsumi. But they keep popping up under different importers names. I guess they would sell these to anyone. Back then they could not sell directly in the US. Only to a US based importer. Later this sort of thing was sold under their own name directly to stores in the US.

The layout plan you had in your box was of the Sierra Pacific Lines of the Pasadena Model Railroad Club, although they haven't been in Pasadena for many years now, but after a couple of moves over the years they finally landed in Alhambra, and are still going strong. www.pmrrm.org/ The next time you folks are in Los Angeles, I strongly suggest you have a gander at this fine 5000 sqft layout, it is a sight to behold.

That's a nice set of cars. You had Union Pacific in your neck of the woods and we had Great Northern. I grew up in Blaine Washington, Great Northern had the main line running north to Vancouver on the water side of town. Orange and back were the engine colors of the day as a kid. Then we started seeing green and black engines when it became Burlington Northern. So many memories from back then. Things like standing at the guard rail on the road edge next to the bluff looking down on the train as it moved along the tracks to or from Vancouver. That's when Highway 99 ran through downtown Blaine before I-5 was done.
