Garfield knows that he has a terrible history with his dates with women. Davis portrayed that earlier in his strips that before being in a relationship with Liz, Jon has been a dating nightmare due to his weak pick-up lines, his clumsiness and other embarrassing things he does on his dates. One of the girls he tries to date has been Ellen. Unfortunately, she tries to get out of a date with Jon with making up excuses or having him do something to embarrass himself before refusing to date him. In her last appearance, she has revealed she had amnesia(possibly from an accident) and didn't remember who Jon was

This is so outdated as to the Garfield Comic Strip now. Jon is now dating Liz, who is very nice to him now. Even on the cartoon, Liz was kind of iffy about dating Jon, but now they are together and the comic strip is even funnier than before. I wish that Garfield and Friends featured Liz more than it did.

Garfield and Friends is hysterical, largely in part because it was written by a dude named Mark Evanier who actually knows humor. Jim Davis is a marketing specialist with no real concern for his concoction.
