Sure they do! It was quite something to see in person. I have pushed my luck with this video. I only passed by and had no idea if I would get traffic jams but I got lucky! It was filmed around 10 - 11am on a week day.

Impressive video. I think including "frontage roads" is cheating a bit, but its clearly a 16 lane freeway, both directions included. Interesting that they didn't go for a collector-express setup, instead a free-tollway setup. Thanks for the view.

Nice video! I went to Houston a few years ago and the Katy was unlike anything I’ve ever seen! Before that I had only been to New York and Florida outside of Canada, so it was all new to me!

It was my first time in southern USA, so it was all new for me! I think the 401 thru toronto is equally impressive, but the stacked interchanges in Houston are much better!

The widened freeways do look nice. Unfortunately widening a freeway like interstate 10 in a state like Texas will do nothing to reduce traffic congestion and will make it worse as a result of induced demand. We are headed for climate disaster instead!

You are absolutely right and in the case of the Katy Freeway, they said that after they widened it, they have seen an increase of traffic jams! I am usually for a good Freeway system, but not adding lanes forever. There come a point where you need to offer other options, such as a good Transit system. Thanks for the comment.

I AGREE. Billions of dollars has been spent to widen the 401 in Toronto each decade, but to no success. City planners have given up and decided to maintain current roads and improve public transport. There's no space left.

I used to think that induced demand was BS and something that the left came up with just to justify not expanding freeways and roads. But I've since learned that induced demand has been known about since at least the 50s. Robert Caro's book The Power Broker, a biography of Robert Moses, who built all of NYC's parkways, expressways, and many bridges, talked about how the Henry Hudson Parkway, built in the 1930s, was supposed to relieve congestion on city streets like Riverside Drive, but it quickly got filled up with traffic and Riverside Drive was no less congested. And the Triborough Bridge was supposed to relieve traffic on the Queensborough Bridge, but completely failed to do so and was soon congested itself. So then Moses built the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge to relieve congestion on the Triborough, but soon it too filled up with traffic, and eventually he built the Throgs Neck Bridge further east, and it too has filled up with traffic. The whole idea that widening freeways solves traffic congestion is such a fraud. The only way to reduce traffic congestion is to give people good alternatives to driving, such as better bus service, more trains, denser and more walkable neighborhoods, and better bike infrastructure.

@@FreewayFranks Yes, it's much better to use trains rather than freeways to move lots of people. Trains could carry so many more people in way less space than a freeway. One line of the New York Subway (the Lexington Avenue Line) carries half a million people per day. That's more people than the busiest freeway in North America, and in way less space!

(you would even be the first, and this comment issue wouldn't be a problem anymore!)

@@FreewayFranks “Frontage”. We call them Service Roads in Louisiana. They’re trying to be all fancy on their 26 lane freeway. Our video on the Katy Freeway was shot on a Sunday, so it was kind of calm. But I’ve been on there when it was much worse.

@@504RoadTrips Are there other states than Texas that call their service roads as ''Frontage roads''? Even here in Québec where I live, we call them ''Voie de service'' (Service road). I bet the Katy Freeway must be often congested, that's why I think I have been lucky. I simply took a chance to film it on my way back home! Other than that, I also need to fully explore the New Orléans area! It looks very interesting. Cheers!

@@FreewayFranks I think Frontage Road is pretty standard all over the US except for Southeast Louisiana. I was probably an adult before I was aware of the term. Addresses in the New Orleans area along I-10 are "#### N (or S) I-10 Service Road". The Westbank Expressway (US-90 Business) had street signs that simply said "Service Rd" for decades, although that wasn't used for addresses.

@@FreewayFranks The irony is that promoting better lane discipline would actually give people more freedom to go the speed they want to go. People who want to drive fast can have the freedom to do so and those who want to go slow can just stay in the right lane without impeding on the freedom of those who want to go fast.
