I was in high school too when One of the Boys came out. I lived in a really small Midwestern town where being queer was never talked about, let alone condoned. I had no idea how much Katy Perry would change my life through her uplifting music. It felt like I was finally included in the world's narrative. Firework, Last Friday Night, Roar, Part of Me, Wide Awake, Birthday, By the Grace of God, Into Me You See, Daises, Smile: all amazing. I think what makes her stand out more than other pop artists is her willingness to give back to all of us. She's humble and knows what it's like to live under an identity that supported fear and shame growing up. She's been through some really dark times. And yet, through it all, she still has so much love for her friends and family. Such a great interview

I am happy she died her her black again. I feel that her core audience was always people born in the 90's. I "grew out" of popular music and Top 40 music back in 2014 when I was 17 so I am basically "living under a rock" when it comes to mainstream music nowadays, however, I am glad that she was a part of my pre-teen and teenage years in 2008 to the mid 2010's. I assume many of her fans are now reaching 30 years old.
