Kawai CA401 Digital Piano - All Playing, No Talking

One of the best playing experiences I've ever had on a digital piano in a showroom. Kawai digital pianos are simply unmatched in terms of their keys' action in my opinion.

I bought this piano and have to say I'm very happy with it. The only thing that lets it down, in my opinion, are the in-built speakers and probably more to do with the placement of them inside the cabinet itself. As such, I found most of the high frequencies are lost as the sound is being projected through the cabinet. I suspect this is not just an issue just with this particular piano but for any piano where the speakers are inside the cabinet. I got around this problem by purchasing a quality set of external speakers (with 1" tweeters) and plugging them into the headphone socket. I admit the aesthetics aren't as good i.e. doesn't look as nice having a set of external speakers sitting on top of the cabinet, and also extra expense to buy these, but the piano sounds so much better for it in my opinion. Of course, the other option is just to play with headphones on which I do 90% of the time anyway 🙂

I don't like the sound. Too tinny. Too metallic. No warmth. Even the base notes have no depth and warmth and this is an issue I find with most Kawais.
