Kawai's NV10S feels more "acoustic" than Yamaha's N3X, which does not vibrate enough. On Kawai's hybrids, I could feel the vibration from the pedals.

Interesting. The N3X has a TRS (Tactile Response System) activated by a transducer on the pedals, which the NV10S doesn't have. The TRS strength is adjustable. Did you adjust the settings? Are you sure it wasn't turned off? The NV10S does not look like a traditional baby grand piano around the pedal area, as the pedal system is integrated with the electronics and a woofer in a center console. Real grand pianos don't have a large center console where the pedals are located. I would revise the claim that the NV10S feels more "acoustic" than the N3X... it seems that the N3X not only has a real traditional pedal system (rather than a center console) but also has a vibration transducer of variable settings. The NV10S has an 8" woofer on the bottom attached to a piece of MDF (medium density board). The only thing that can vibrate is the paper cone, which can energize the air around the box where the woofer shares space with the electronics (the power supply, 3 amplifiers and electronic boards are all located on that box as well). The NV10S is basically two giant boxes stacked on top of each other: one for the woofer + electronics, and one for the action and top speakers. So, the whole thing will probably shake more as a unit, but I am not sure if that makes it really more "acoustic"... real grand pianos shake in the middle and the pedals get the vibration from the rim keys, soundboard, rim... the NV10S is just this gigantic unit that shakes by means of its woofer energizing from the bottom up (and of course the key mechanism)... the N3X has all the speakers (12 of them, with 4 woofers firing down) in the center, so it shakes the piano from the center down, in the style of an acoustic grand piano, plus it has a vibration transducer on the pedals. Maybe you get more vibration overall with the NV10S (questionable, but possible).... however, does that mean is the vibration more like an acoustic piano? The NV10S doesn't seem to be designed to imitate the vibrations of a grand piano with authenticity.

@@Instrumental-Covers 1. I agree with you that more vibration does not necessarily mean more like an acoustic instrument. 2. With that being said, the NV10S does vibrate a lot more than the N3X. 3. I double-checked with the Yamaha seller to make sure that the TRS was turned on and on its highest level. 4. As someone who is completely self-taught without any in-depth understanding any piano, I feel that the NV10S is more like an acoustic piano than the N3X, which to me was too rock solid. The Bosendorfer grands in the showroom vibrate, the NV10S vibrates, but the N3X really not so much.

@@sx99cornell It seems to me that you experienced 3 types of vibrations: 1. Real acoustic piano vibrations emanating mainly from the center and extending down to the pedals 2. Weak attempt by Yamaha to emulate the style of vibration of a real acoustic piano: 12 speakers (particularly 4 woofers underneath) vibrate the center, plus 2 vibration transducers help to transmit the more vibrations to the keyboard and the pedals. More realistic emulation, but too weak (according to your experience) 3. Higher level of vibration from two boxes stacked on top of each other (NV10S), with a woofer on the bottom creating most of the vibration and shaking the entire structure. Not very realistic emulation of the way a grand piano vibrates So, I guess the challenge for Yamaha would be to increase the effectiveness of the vibration, and the challenge for Kawai would be to make the NV10S more grand piano-like and behave more closely to such instruments.

Eric Idles love child? Terrific to see on here demonstrating pianos, was thinking where I had seen your face and then Britains got talent. You are better than all this, you need a manager to get you out into the world. Don't waste your wonderful talent and demeanour! We purchased a ES110, purely for no nonsense key feel to learn piano, had it now for over a year and it is fabulous keyboard. Tinkering on the piano is like doodling on a guitar, fabulous instrument and so enjoyable to play. Late starter mid 60's :)
