I think the corner triangle looking 😮ornaments are sewn in at the beginning when putting on the corner pieces.

Loved ones clothing makes lovely comfort quilts for those who have been widowed. I made a cuddle quilt for my friend who was missing her husband terribly. She loved it a said she had to fight the dog for it. I asked her for her husband's fleece (synthetic) jacket and made a pillow/bed for their dear dear grieving dog and added a small teddy bear made from the left over shirt scraps. The comfort achieved was worth the effort. Sewing and love work well together.

Hi Kelli, how sweet of you to do that for your friend and her dog, I agree that using clothing from loved ones (whether they're no longer with us, or it might be children who've grown out of them) is a beautiful way to remember someone and bring comfort, and I LOVE that phrase, "sewing and love work well together" - I will remember that and stitch it into my next book of stitchery swap squares, it would fit so well :)

Oh, God bless you. You are dear to me. I made cuddle quilts and baby quilts out of my daughter's dresses ( baby cuddle quilts from their favorite tee shirts) because they all wore each others clothes.they are together forever in these quilts in these beautiful connecting threads. You inspire me and make my life happier. Thank you for making the world a better place.

I wonder where my comment went? I said you were right about the corner triangles the second way. The squares are folded in half diagonally TWICE then the folded point is sewn to each corner of your quilt. The edges are raw and the triangles kind of dangle. Use slightly smaller squares to get smaller phula. The phula aren't really proportional to the quilts. Hopefully this time my comment doesn't get lost!!
@artyfartyannie2 жыл бұрын
Aha! thanks Marei, that makes perfect sense - I might just hve to use a fabric that holds the fold a little better in that case I think, but then it's not like I don't have much fabric to choose from. I'll check spam in case your original comment went in there, they sometimes seem to do that for no apparent reason. Thanks again, I can add phula to my naked quilts now! :)

@@artyfartyannie I watched a talk on Kawandi. She didn’t give a full blown tutorial but when she talked about the corners she folded the square like you did the second time and like Marei said you attach by the folded pointy corner to corner. It’s actually more lovely when the fabric is floppy as the corners represent flowers 🌺 so if they puff out it’s perfect!

@@fayneilly833 Fair point - i guess it's slow compared to machine stitching but it's quick compared to traditional quilting???

That white fabric looks like either gabardine or double knit to me. I thought about making some of those type of baskets out of the legs of the boy's blue jeans. The big boy just gave me a couple of pairs the other day cause he wore the seat out of them, but yours are really cute with the quilted fabric and the cuff that you folded over.
@artyfartyannie2 жыл бұрын
Hi Dolores, it looks a bit like twill and it's all synthetic I believe. Yes, jeans would be perfect for those baskets, maybe with a colourful contrast fabric for the inside/cuff??

Thank you so much Christine, I just can't stop just yet! Ah thank, it was very difficult and still makes me sad especially for my boys as they were very young at the time. Life goes on as they say, but it's good to remember and I do think these memory quilts are such a lovely way to do that. How is yours going? I'd love to see it sometimes, please do share in the arty farty annie FB group if you would be happy to :)

Hi Annie can u tell me how many strands u used of the embroidery floss or did u use the 6 strands? Looks like I am going down this rabbit hole - I really enjoy yr inspirational videos - all of them - because I have watched them all! Take care and thank you ❤ Rhonda
@artyfartyannie Жыл бұрын
HI Rhonda, thanks so much for the kind words and for watching my vids :) I think I used two strands on this, but I reckon it would look good with three because I just love the texture of the stitching. On those first couple I showed I used some thick plain light-coloured cotton I'd picked up in a bargain bin, no label so I can't tell you what it was but I much preferred that, and it's quite similar to what the Siddi women use I think. Sashiko thread or cotton a broder would also be good. However I have a lot of embroidery floss so that's what I'm using now and it is lovely to have all the colours for a change. Hope that helps. Happy stitching and do please share pics of your project in progress in teh FB group or Discord community :)

Thank you for the advice, much appreciated :) I made this video quite a while back, so I did eventually work it out - took some digging though! I'm thinking of tackling a larger piece this year, although I do find small ones easier to manage and very useful for making into storage bags in my craft room. Have you made many kawandi yourself?
