RIP J-Bird Around 8:30 PM, Monday, September 2, 2024, the Fond du Lac County Communications Center received a call from a person saying they saw an ultralight aircraft go down into a field near W1902 Townhall Road, about two miles northeast of Campbellsport. Deputies with the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office as well as Campbellsport Fire and Ambulance were immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon finding the aircraft, it was learned the pilot was conscious and alert but bleeding and trapped in the wreckage. Flight For Life medical helicopter was called to the scene, but as rescue personnel worked to free the man from the wreckage, he passed away.

Gosh the old T1 series twin used in my 1972 Cheetah lives on with minor changes fifty years later in small planes. Kawasaki’s got their money out of this one. Bigger fan housing, better ignition system, better seals in the crank, better carb and tighter tolerances than the old first generation sled engines but not much else changes. The best change in fifty years is modern two stroke oils are light years ahead of what we had in 1970. Makes me wish time travel was possible so I could send a case of it back to me as a kid. Lol. So many engine problems could have been avoided.

@robertbee97766 жыл бұрын
I guess if you could put a KZ900 or 1000 and still be light enough I would like it, and I would have to see more of the wing, it also could be made with lighter materials of fabrics. I saw the 440 engines could not take it (hard usage, high rpm) back in the day they came out. Maybe they were not good back then and they got better with better metals. Show the wing if possible and weld quality, junk is not always visible and sample test bends on sample parts will tell the truth. Did you bother to bend any of the structural assembly to set the load limits or just yahoo and up you go?
@robertbee97766 жыл бұрын
Motors are much better today and it looks like fun. I may make a few wings to see if I can get enough lift to justify a motor. I've been thinking about making wings for a few years, now I feel I can make a good one if I can find the time. I will try soon.

Correction, an exhaust system (expansion chamber) on a 2 stroke engine can increase horsepower by 200% plus via pressure pulsation tuning which creates boost, at a tuned RPM. Totally opposite for a 4 stroke engine.
