Link at bottom of description for all Torq Specs.....
In this video ill be showing you how to change the oil and adjust the doohickey on a duel sport Kawasaki KLR650 motorcycle. You can use this as a reference for KLRs built 1987-2018.
Also make sure that you have your bike warmed up prior to changing the oil, I forgot to mention this in the video, let it idle for 5min or so.

On the 2023 KLR, use 10W40, unless you live in Alaska or Djibouti (or somewhere else super hit or cold).

Use a flush-mount, magnetic drain plug, especially if using the stock (plastic) ‘skid plate’.

Eagle Mike recommends no more that 15 ft/lbs, as the sump plug easy easy to strip !.

I’d highly recommend a torque wrench. Some of those bolts snap at really low torque

Half the battle for me is finding my tools, after an hour of searching for my low-end torque wrench I gave up. Yes, you are right defiantly use a torque wrench so you don't risk stripping any thread on bolts or bike.

Can you do the doohickey adjustment with oil still in it? And how often should I do the adjustment?
@AdventureTomek
@AdventureTomek 2 жыл бұрын
You should be able to, I don’t see why not. At every oil change. The KLR650 manual recommends oil changes at every 6,000 miles.

@@AdventureTomek I recently acquired a 2014 with approximately 10,000 miles and I doubt the doohickey has ever been adjusted I'll have to get that done ASAP and my rebound adjustment

Is this adjustment good to do even if my bike doesn't have the eagle Mike doohickey? It has the stock doo

@@AdventureTomek ok thanks, I hear a whirring/slight rattling sound coming from the doo area, just got the bike, previous owner said the doo wasn't done, I checked the cam chain when I was checking the valve clearance and it was properly tensioned, so its not that, the bike runs perfect, but the noise I'm hearing doesn't sound right to me, I'll try this adjustment and if that doesn't fix it, I'll order the eagle mike doo and open it up and see if the stock one is blown and do the doo at the same time, the bike is a 2008 with 8000 miles on it, previous owner had no idea what he was doing, had to clean and adjust the carb, and fix the rear shock preload adjuster, one step at a time the bike is getting back to top notch
