Jamie, your adventures are one of the reason I started riding, years ago. I recently became dad and the time I spent on two wheels turned on living the best adventure of my life: my little daughter. Let’s be honest: combining the two things ain’t an easy task and you probably know. I miss riding and I rarely do. A little nostagia Jaime! Great to see you back at the Rock =) Your old video on the Thruxton to the same location not only inspired to start moto campin', it introduced me to that spot. I've been returning there 2-3 times a year since. It became my getaway spot for a weekend (mid-week as well since retirement), or a final night stop on a long trip. Camped there with my wife as well a few times. Never ceases to amaze and calm me. I've not yet camped on the rock itself (and bravo to you for riding your bikes to the top...I've hiked that "trail" enough times to appreciate it), but the sites to the north give spectacular views of the valley below and other fantastic rock formations. Dipped into the "nearby" water holes and enjoyed the slides too. Though I camped on the Kern last time I was there, we rode to Ponderosa for breakfast and I was gutted by the scope of the fire. Honestly, I choked back a few tears. Relieved to see that Holey, Giants, and the dome zone were saved (as was Ponderosa....those poor folks!! two major fires in two years!!), but it will not return to it's former glories until long after we are gone. Another sight you introduced to me on that video is forest route 23S02/23S16. Had the pleasure of riding that area a couple years ago from Alta Sierra to Johnsondale and so glad I did. It is all completely burned out now.
