I can’t thank you enough for this video. Chased a problem with my 2003 Mule 3010 for months. It would stall on load/throttle. Replaced an embarrassing amount of parts with no success until seeing this video, pulling off the breather case and finding oil. Cleaned that, the throttle body, the air intake tubing, and replaced air filter that had oily residue on it. Temporary fix while awaiting catch can delivery proved the Mule runs better than it ever has. Appreciate it!

Thanks for this. I have a 2005 mule 3000. I just replaced the old carb a few months ago. It ran great for quite a few miles. Now it bogs down when going up hills. I do remember the old carb and air filter had oil residue. I can’t wait to try your idea out.

I have a 2011 4010 and have a problem with the spark plugs fouling or at least getting covered in carbon, and the machine runs very bad when first started. I think after viewing your video that I have the problem you described and am going to disconnect it first to see if it runs smoother. Thanks for the tip!

Hello Harmon, I have a 2014 4010 that has been sitting up for about 7 or 8 years. Someone mistakenly put diesel fuel in the last time it was started. I drained the tank, had to replace the fuel pump, and injectors. I have the rear cylinder that I can’t get to fire. I replaced the coil and swapped the spark plug. It will try to start up as long as you are cranking on it but it won’t hold idle. I homed out the pulse generator, and checked the frequency and AC voltage output also. But I haven’t checked or tried to clean the throttle body. Would you have any suggestions????

2019 Mule 4010 here. There is no inlet port on mine in the location you show with your green plug. Just a spot that looks like where one was intended to be. It looks like the system was re-designed at some point on the later models. Can anyone share any new info?

I believe you are correct I think they relocated to the inlet for that oily engine fumes to somewhere closer to the roll bar area it's still puts it upstream of the throttle body and so the problem is still there.

I had the same problem on my 2012 4010. I have since capped off the throttle body inlet and put on a breather on the crank case. If it works well I will try a more long term oil catch like you have.

I did this on my 2012 KAF 620 and it helped a ton until warms up then idle starts acting up and it will pop, cough and shuts down. It’s like the butterfly in the TB is getting a wrong signal from the ECM, or the butterfly still may be gummed up....?? I’m gonna try cleaning the TB again, paying extra care to butterfly and we’ll see.

The hose from your crankcase that you ran into your oil catch can, would you anticipate any problems if I simply zip tied that disconnected hose downward and not used an oil catch can.....I know, I know, KZbinrs will yell @ me, but simply until my catch can comes in.

I wouldn't, because that vet pulses. When not running would be a good place for the infamous dirt dauber to cause you a problem. You might be able to tape a rag over the hose end though, just til your can comes in!

Mr Harmon i have a 2007 3010 Mule it hasn't been used in years. Hours show 632. Im having issues with it stalling after about 10 minutes or so running. Have replaced many different parts and it continues to stall after a short period of time and it will not restart...If i leave it sitting after the stalling for 45 minutes to an hour it will start. Can you suggest something can try to correct this. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for the video. I bought the same item but had to use a different ebay vendor. Hope it does the trick. I was able to reuse the factory hose by routing away from the hot exhaust.

Thanks for the video, this is exactly what is going on with my 2018 4010 Trans. It is in the shop again today, 2 years after they replaced the throttle body. After 2 years it again started idling like it was going to die and sometimes it does. Questions: You got the plug from your stock as mentioned in another comment but if you don't have a stock of those where do you get them? Also, what size is the hose from the oil catch can to the crank case? My extended warrant runs out October 23, 2024. Hoping they replace the throttle body again.

Dealer I worked for the techs would just make a plug for the hose by the intake port stuck inside the hose . I’ve seen em leave em like this and I’ve seen em add a slit into the vent hose like a water burp valve. So squeeze the hose it may already be plugged . Atleast this method looks factory.

You just have to take it apart and clean it with throttle body cleaner there's several places on the internet where all that information is laid out step by step.

I have had no problems with my fuel pump, but I have replaced just the pump on motorcycles with good result. Curious why yours is killing pumps???

I believe it would only affect the idle. However if the idol was low enough the light might flicker.

Your vent line goes directly into the throttle body... Not good. I have a 2016 model 4010 and they moved the vent line down to the bottom of the main air intake hose for the throttle body. They actually have a little valley in this hose to catch the raw oil... I took the throttle body off and intake hoses and the inside was all wet and gummed up with oil,,,, what a mess!

How is it working now that a year has passed? Also, why not just take the hose off the throttle body, plug the inlet like you did and let it vent to the atmosphere? I've read the other comments, but I'm not clear if it isn't recommended or some actual harm may come from it.

Because the Pistons move up and down they pulse,and you have to have a breather on the crankcase Kawasaki has evidently redesign this somewhat but you could put a short section of tubing with a small filter on the end of it you just don’t wanna suck dirt and debris back into the crank case when it pulses in. Also there is going to be a lot of oil vapor expelled and so it would create quite a mess without a catch can

Wounder if that is what is wrong with my neighbors 2012 mule.. changed the filter in the fuel pump an it ran really good for a couple months .. checked that agian an its clean.. now when u start it it will idel but when u give it gas it stalls out kinda like it not getting gas but the pump is working up to the enjectors.ejector.. any info would help.. gona try with the vent tube off to see if any changes.. that is not really a good solution. It's a band-aid at best. The system relies on a little bit of crankcase vapors, and every single one of them that I've dealt with that's had a CCV mod, does not run quite perfectly. There is NO good solution for this EFI system....I agree that it's a poor setup at best. The catch can then has a filter/breather on it, which emits the crankcase vapors into the atmosphere-which is not up to epa standards-and it also gives off a oily smell when the engine is running.
