Good job Gary! You’re exactly right. I’ve been working on these mules for twenty years but never thought of flipping the the shifting cog. Thanks!

Firstly hey neighbor! Never knew there was such a dedicated mule man so close to home. Just ran into this issue myself and going to start breaking out the transmission soon. Thanks for the relatively easy fix.

Not sure if youre still checking comments or not, but why are there teeth in both sides? Im confused how flipping it fixes anything if the worn teeth still grip something on the other side. Mine slips out reverse once loaded hard, and slips out just moving forward too. So im gonnna tackle it but if i dont habe to buy a part, thats awesome,
@bryce86777Ай бұрын
One side engages forward and the other side is reverse. The very edges get worn and let it slip out. Flipping it means the worn side will drive reverse. Let likely to slip out as reverse isn’t commonly used in the park power and of the engine. You need to order a new piece if it’s already slipping in both directions.

Great advice! Should there be any end play in that shaft once assembled? I noticed mine moves on and out maybe an eighth of an inch while reinstalling the secondary clutch.

I have a 4010 diesel and every so often it will pop out of gear for a split second and back into gear and not do it again for another few weeks. I adjusted my shifting levers ensuring that they are functioning properly but I think I may have a cog that is going bad.

Does it require a gasket to be put back together or do you just use RTV gasket maker
@garymoore6735 Жыл бұрын
RTV which is what ie used from the factory.

I have a Mule 3010 that had low compression and I put a rebuilt engine in it. The problem I'm having now is that while both the primary drive clutch and secondary driven clutch spin together with the engine idling in neutral, as soon as you go to put it in any gear the secondary driven clutch completely stops moving and the primary drive clutch keeps turning so the belt makes a very loud squealing noise due to the friction of rubbing against the secondary driven pulley. I put a new secondary driven pulley and belt on it and the problem still exists. I inspected the two gear selector linkages on the transmission and they both operate freely. I even went out to look at a friend's Mule 3010 and took a video of the operation of the two gear selector positions in high gear, neutral, low gear, and reverse to compare and they look to be identical. Does anyone have a clue what would be causing this? The only other thing I can think of is that when I first went to start the engine, the shifter cable bracket was still hanging loose since it is bolted to the engine and I had to move it around a bit to get it in neutral so it would crank. Not certain if this could have caused any issues, but again both of the gear selector levers appear to be operating properly. Transmission fluid is full and clean. Any ideas?

How do you fix the snapping popping noise, that comes out of the front end of all the 3010 4x4 Mules ,
@weeeves19 күн бұрын
If it's making it a popping noise while you're driving on hard pavement with 4wd engaged then that's completely normal. The fix - don't drive in 4wd on hard pavement.

Any advice where to find a new shift cog I think mine is beyond using flipped I use reverse often
@garymoore67352 жыл бұрын
That's the point in just flipping it. The cog only wears one side. If you think about it. the cog is on the input shaft which only turns only one direction so when you flip it's like new again!

My 2008 mule 3010 makes a squealing noise when the 4x4 is in gaged. Only makes this noise when the vehicle is moving. The noise is coming from some where in the front. When the 4x4 is disengage, the squealing sound goes away 5 seconds after 4x4 is disengage. Anyone has an idea what is causing this noise?

Can you reply with the link to the transmission video? Please?
Yes it works. It is the cureu to jumping out of gear. What you have to do is after this is done by all means lower the idle as low as you can. The high idel is what causes the problem. It has to not grind just putting in forward or reverse gear! You can call me if you need any info. 985750939.
