You are welcome. The marker (what I call city) lights are the only ones that require any disassembly of the cowls. It's not that time consuming. Any questions on how to remove any piece just ask.

Just followed your excellent, visual, hand-movement instructions for the LED headlight bulb replacement without removing the fairing. Could not have done without your instructions. My right wrist now looks like I just escaped from hand cuffs, but my headlight iz now gloriously white.

Fantastic ! Removing all the plastic on the front half of the bike isn't fun. In order to get the front off you have to take both sides off which is after you have to take the top little faring piece off after you take off the windshield. But first if you have the crash bars and Aux lights (like my bike) those all have to come off. It never ends. lol Glad I could help. Thanks - I was able to replace the headlamp without removing all the panels. Nice easy upgrade. If people are struggling unclipping the "wire" bit, you can see it left of the headlamp when you look at it. You need to push it up an over that small cavity to get it out, and then back in when replacing.

The first time I swapped the H4 headlight bulb to a better Silvania halogen bulb it took me a few minutes to figure it out. Then when I went to the H4 LED bulb the swap out time was faster. Once you do the headlight swap the next time is a piece of cake. Thank you for your comment.

I have just completed the switch over to all LED lights on my bike. WOW ! What a difference. Overall easy to do. I had to take the front cowling off to get at the headlight and the marker lights, but got it done. Swapped out the horn for a louder one while I had it all apart. My bike will certainly be seen (and heard) much better when the riding season starts. Thanks for your video and the part numbers.

You are welcome. Going to full LED on the X300 was a priority for me. The original bulbs were just lame. The journey of updating the Versys X300 will continue in 2022. First up is a new design for raising up the stock windshield with a stout bracket that is under construction. This new bracket will hopefully be low vibration and be able to better deliver more solid video and hold my phone charger better. We'll see how it turns out. More likely to be updated to make it even better as the design goes through changes. Thanks for your comment.

You are welcome. The LED bulb swap out is one of the first updates that I would recommend to a new purchaser of an X300. Also, a center stand. Check out the many more videos on this channel. The one I just finished on windshield design was the most time-consuming project so far. I learned a lot about wind noise and helmet buffeting cancelation.

Thanks for taking the time to document your work and provide links. I will be upgrading my lights per your video. I have a different version T-Rex skidplate on my 2019 VX300. It does not have the "trap door" and the OEM lower plastic is retained. I do a bit of technical off road riding here in Maine, and I've bottomed out on the skidplate hard on several occasions, leaving visible scars on it. I just went out and looked at it, and it has not budged. The mounting brackets look to be different than yours, which might be why. Bob

Bob, You would have the standard skid plate that has two brackets that come up behind the plastic low cowls and attach. Which in turn those attachment points are brackets that attach to ears on the aluminum crank case. If you are doing real off road and bottom out hard I would suggest to go to the T-Rex Heavy Duty Skid Plate like in my T-Rex HD Skid Plate with 5th brace video. The HD plate attached to the four strongest point on the lower front of the bike the Engine / Frame mounts and all four points are M10 (7/16" ish) bolts right on the frame and that is stout. The regular T-Rex Skid Plate scares me as it is the crank case (ears) that are taking a beating. They are weak and if they break and if that happens you can loose oil and the repair would be easily over $1,000 for a new crank case and labor. The Heavy Duty is $179 (ish) dollars and is a bargain compared to the next best design which is the Ricochet at $241 but it to uses the crank case ears. The T-rex HD Skip Plate is the only one that addresses the loose wire on the right side that once was covered by the plastic has to be removed. The Ricochet does not. I don't work for T-rex but just think their products are great.

Yes, no slack on most of the fittings, wiring, etc. I know nothing of wiring, or working on bikes, etc, but I did remove the fairings and gas tank for installing the booster plug (which I decided against so waste of time). What I noticed though was everything from the factory is made to spec. in that there is little to no leeway. It's amazing how they create this stuff at the factory. It's a fantastic bike, and my first. Tanks for the informative video!

You're welcome. The 2 pin blinker relay that I show in the video helps with the install and giving a little more allowance for your assembly right next to the frame.

@@bennryan2 The 12Volt plug in / phone outlet (USB) would be installed with either {{the factory relay (plug and play relay) to energize the fog light connector (white 2 pint) and the two (GND & 12 Volt) green translucent bullet connectors that are right beside the relay factory socket }} OR {{ a 12 Volt wire going to another relay added in somewhere on the bike then on to the bike's 12 volt positive terminal on the battery }}. You can find the factory connector and it's relay by watching the video where it shows the location right beside the left fork directly below the round plug/USB position on the dash. My thoughts are the previous owner used the factory relay to put the plug/phone charging on the bike. That is what I would do. If you have any questions please ask. I've done both relay method on my bike - the factory relay for the USB/phone charger/aux lights and an additional relay just for the Delani Sound bomb Air Horn. Fun stuff.

I definitely would like auxiliary lights, and maybe would like to change the headlight, as it's a bit low on the low-beam. But the aux lights for sure! @@bennryan2 The factory relay is best and the bike is wired for plug and play genuine Kawasaki Aux lights. There is a 2 pin white connector right by the relay to plug in. It takes care only being on when the key is turned on. (no battery drainage when the key is off or removed from the bike). Any additional aftermarket relay you will need to be the "switch" to make sure anything on that relay is turned off or battery will be drained. As mentioned above the factory relay can handle the Genuine Kawasaki Aux Lights and the USB/phone chargers. My video will show you all of that. Welcome to the X300 club.

Thanks for the great info! I am also Versys X 300 owner and the stock lights are, indeed, pathetic. I was not aware of the LED lights you used but did upgrade to the same Halogen bulb you showed, and that was much better, but still left room for improvement. I will definitely order the headlight, tail light, and relay ASAP ! I also like your simple idea on stabilizing the T-Rex heavy duty skid plate, which I have. I went over a small curb with mine, not fast enough to launch over it, and when I did the skid plate hit said curb and did rock back just enough to contact the exhaust and set up one heck of a vibration/buzz which required me to re-position it. Again, I didn't hit hard, but with nothing to keep it from rocking rearward, it did exactly that. So the problem is real, and I'm sure your simple solution will solve it. Thanks for the clear, concise videos. I certainly appreciate the fact that you don't spend 10 minutes "unboxing" the bulbs and extolling the virtues of the packaging! George

George - thank you. This T-Rex HD skid plate is by far the best as it only attaches to the engine/frame M10 bolts and NOT the fragile aluminum engine crank case. The 5th brace takes it to the next level also utilizing the M10 frame bolt on the center stand mount. No other skid plate will protect like this one with the 5th brace. Yes - there are so many video of accessories being unboxed or just being point out after install on the persons bike. I'm getting my hands dirty and spending extra money to do my sort of "deep dive" and all the helpful hints. Please add your testimonial to my T-Rex Skid Plat video. The more we help other the better. Below the video there is all the detail on each of the bulbs and the blinker flasher unit. I chose the flasher with the short cable pigtail to make it much easier to install under the seat. The OEM flasher must be replaced for the blinkers to function properly. Here is the link to the flasher that I suggest and I used on my X300. @@zibitappert There are several aftermarket windshield that X300 owners have given positive feedback on. The Givi is probably the most common - expensive however, Amazon is full of knock offs for $45. One X300 owner did comment that they bend in the wind and vibrate so he bought two and double them up. That might not make sense so at 2 times the $45 price just buy a real Givi. Also good ones are Puig, MRA and National Cycle. They are well designed and made. it is hard to say however, when talking about the total stator output on the X300 any savings is a good thing. The X300 isn't a powerhouse in the department of stator output. I forget what the exact value is, but it isn't much. In another video I go into detail about the electronics I've got all attached to the Aux Lights/Aux dash 12volt outlet connectors on the left side of the dash. My goal was to free up the amperage of the added devices by reducing the light bulbs which were all power-hungry old school. I've daisy chained off the two Aux connections to power 1. GoPro 10, 2. Zumo XT, 3. wireless phone charger, 4. OEM Aux lights and 5. dual USB charging ports. All on the Aux lights 5-amp fuse under the seat. My calculations is all the power for these devices is around 3.5 amps so, plenty of power. I've also added a brake light kit to the Givi B47 top case for more rear visibility. Did you notice a loose fit for the led headlight? My 3-prong connector came off while riding - another biker alerted me that I had no headlight. Got back to the garage and noticed that it’s a somewhat loose fit. I’m using the same led bulb you recommended. Just curious if you noticed anything. Thanks again!

I haven't noticed any looseness in the headlight bulb after going with the LED bulb. One other X300 owner commented that he had his 3-pin connector come off after riding the bike and he found that his 3-pin connector wasn't pressed onto the LED bulb very well and he reconnected the 3-pin connector and it went on correctly and held tight. I can suggest trying to determine if the 3-pin connector on your X300 is all the way onto the 3 prongs on the LED bulb. If you are not taking off the plastic cowl and changing to the LED bulb blind, then the possibility exist the connector may be not all the way onto the LED bulb's three prongs. Check for a tight fit. It the 3-pin connector can be pulled off with no effort something is wrong. Let me know what you have found.

Can the brake light be installed without adding any converter to the bike. ?

All that is needed is the LED bulb. No other device is needed. In my video I use a 1157 LED and now there is a 1157 LED bulb that quickly strobes three times and then stay on steady state. There is something new all the time. I may swap out to the strobe version as that seems like it would the attention of car drivers behind the bike even more. @@newlife155 If you are referring to the Aux lights on the crash bars - they are OEM Aux lights and they are sealed so no changes are possible. Have fun upgrading your 2023 Versys X300. There is a lot of third-party support and changing/updating will be endless.

All the LED lights are working fine. Headlight, blinkers, taillight, Givi B47 top case light kit, OEM aux lights. No issues. I have thousands of miles on the bike since the lighting upgrades and no issues.

I read where some of the LED headlight updates needed adjustment. Using this bulb that is marketed as a motorcycle bulb there was no adjustment needed. The LED panels on the bulb are in alignment with the what the old Halogen had for the low and high beam. What I didn't show was when you go to the high beam it is bright beyond 500 feet out. It is about $20 and I would recommend that all Versys X300 owners go for LED upgrades. It isn't a lot of money to be way more visible on the road. It is for your safety. Thanks for the question.

I swapped out my tires to shinko 804/805s because I mostly enjoy gravel/farm backroads in my area, SE Minnesota. I haven’t done any electrical things, I’m not confident in my ability to tackle those yet;) I’m a first time rider, only bike Ive had, and just got mine in April, a 2017. The Auxito headlight bulb that replaces the stock 55-watt halogen bulb is using far less wattage and therefore creating far less heat. I reviewed the information provided by Auxito and the wattage at 14 volts DC times 1.58 Amps = 22 watts. The headlight body should be subjected to less heat with the Auxito LED bulb using less electrical power. Thank you.

Like in this video read the comments right below the large title and my channel name with Icon. I list of all the Links to all the significant parts. I don't show links for common fasteners like M8 x 22mm bolts that use. I buy most of my bolts, nuts, screws, etc. from either Home Depot or Amazon. But anything in particular I'll list the link. See above for each LED bulb and relay that you will need and the source. My most safety oriented video is this full LED swap out for the bike. My favorite update is the Denali Soundbomb Split Air Horn that is invisible if you are looking at my bike but it is a blast ! ( pun intended ) Everyone looks to see there the truck is. Hello Another User, the black item is not removed or touched. The H4 bulb that is used in this video does not require removing any part of the bike. You can swap out the H4 bulb with the handlebars all the way to the left and that provides room from the underside on the left (sitting on the bike) side of the bike. You can reach up and deal with the 3-pin connector, the rubber weather doughnut, the bail H4 wire holder and the H4 bulb. Thank you for your question. If you need any additional information just let me know. When you are done the new bulb will be much brighter and keeping the same size base on the bulb the connection will remain waterproof.

Is there a tab release on the headlight bulb connector? Or is it like a car and just a pull off with no tab release?

Once you have the 3-pin connector (covered with a rubber boot) off the headlight bulb there is one wire bail that holds the bulb in place. The wire (that I call a bail) is curved under a little metal tab that has the little slot (think of it as a cut out like a J. And once the bail is out of the way the bulb is free. I try to explain it in the video with finger gestures. lol Once you do the bulb swap the next time it is a 2-minute task.

Yes the same LED bulb is used for the City Lights / Running lights that are apart of the headlight unit. The Link to that bulb is in the description above. I bought the 10 pack/box so I have used 6 and have 4 as spares.

The axillary lights are from Kawasaki - original equipment. They are plug and play with the wire harness of the Versys X300. The axillary lights can be purchased from several internet sites or directly from Kawasaki. They are designed to attach to the Genuine Kawasaki crash bars. What are your thoughts on getting the AUX lights as well? They are pretty expensive here in AU, and as I am not mechanically minded would need to pay to get them installed, and all up that will run me close to AUD$1000. I'm thinking to try the new LED set up first for a while and hopefully not need to get the aux lights as well...but will if I still feel I need more light. Most of my riding is on country roads and the original lights are atrocious at night hahaha I have had my X300 for 3 months and really looking forward to this lighting upgrade 🙂

@@lisafreeman6594 Welcome to the X300 club. The Kawasaki OEM Aux lights need the Kawasaki OEM crash bars to bolt up to. This combo is really expensive here also ( $400+ for the Aux lights and $250+ for the bars). In order to reduce the cost substantially you can purchase a 3rd party crash bars that are actually a better design and off better protection. I have many videos on the OEM crash bars where I attach them to the T-Rex heavy duty skid plate to beef up the crash bars. I do have a video on using the what the bike provides which is the OEM Aux lights power connector (inside the cowling by the left side of the head light) and use 3rd party Aux lights. My video provides all the detail on connectors for the bike's Aux lights power connector, the Aux lights connectors and the dash board on / off power switch. This approach uses an Kawasaki OEM Aux Light's harness (about $6) and this connector pig tail wires to directly wire up any 3rd party Aux lights. @@d0cc0nners You're welcome. Will you be swapping out the blinkers also? I think that is a major advantage to have improved blinkers but just remember the relay also with LED bulbs. Once note on the blinker bulbs - they can be inserted two ways so if you plug one of the them in and it does not light rotate the LED bulb 180 degrees and you now have it lit. Thanks again.

For the blinker/running lights there are quite a few reviews on Amazon about poor longevity. Some people are reporting a high failure rate with these bulbs after about 6 months. Have you had any issues yet?

No issues yet. I would not have reached the 6 month period of riding. I do have hundreds of mile with lots of blinker time. I'll keep an eye on these once riding in the spring starts back up. I read a few reviews that were one star and it looks like heat related issues so the binkers should not be getting hot as they are only one for short periods and 50% duty cycle. The city lights are on 100% of the time the bike is running so I will watch out for them the most. The one star review make up only 3% of the reviews but paying attention is always best. There is mention of license plate lite failure - I wonder if these are bulbs are installed in very small enclosures. Heat build up would be worse in such a situation.

Hey brother I placed the amber light bulb in my cart and it says it doesn’t fit. Did they change the model number?

Once you have told Amazon what you have (make / model of bike) - Amazon will flag the amber blinker bulb. I'm getting the same caution. Just ignore the caution. The bulb will fit. In the video I demonstrate the LED having the same form/size bulb and base compatibility. Just a reminder you will need the Blinker flasher that is an electronic flasher to replace the OEM mechanical flasher as the OEM will not work correctly. The Blinker flasher and new blinker LED bulbs are low cost and offer a high degree of safety. Thank you for your question.

@@chicoseki4024 If you are talking about the two city lights that are in the headlight housing there is no relay needed for that pair of lights. If you are talking about adding the auxiliary lights that attach to the crash bars then there is a relay that is needed. If you are going to add the auxiliary lights, please watch my other "adding electronics" video as it shows the "plug and play" connectors already on the bike and the needed relay location that also has a "plug and play" connector. @@trekOCLVone thank you, that will definitely help me when I decide to add auxiliary lights. I’m changing my head lights, city lights, and brake lights exactly like you did. I’m adding aftermarket turn signals since the ones I got are damaged and I figured I might as well go with new sets of LEDS entirely. Do you think I’ll need relays for them as well?

Do the city lights have to be amber? I know the turns do....and I know you say in the video you do it for contrast, just wondering though....if I go all white light for headlamp and city lights.

The City lights from Kawasaki are white and very dim so they almost look amber compared to the headlight. I chose to use the same bulbs as my amber turn signals as I think it make the city lights stand out next to the LED white headlight. I think it is more noticeable and therefore gets my vote as the goal is the be seen and be safe. Thank you for your question.

I'm not 100% sure however, Kawasaki has made very little change for all years (2017-2022). You can ask the Versys X300 group on Facebook. I find useful information about the X300 on that group. I contribute to the group as well. UPDATE - The 2022 and 2023 doesn't have LED bulbs.

Everything is For Sale. lol I've enjoyed working on the X300 and have many videos on all sorts of upgrades and mods. I take great care to not cut/chop into the wiring or bike in any way. If any of the upgrades ever come back off the bike can be returned to stock condition. What else would you like to see happen to the X300. Thank you!
