Kawasaki Voyager Rear Suspension Adjustment

Adjusting the amount of air and dampening rate on my 2023 Voyager rear shocks for improved ride and handling.
Things to remember, DO NOT use an air compressor or the air at a gas station, only use a hand pump, preferably one with a built in gauge.
I added 30 psi to my shocks and adjusted the dampening rate top III (3) and I cannot believe the difference in the ride, it's ;like night and day. Again, you don't have to make any changes to your bike, this is just something I did for mine after doing some research on what a variety of other riders have done to their bikes.

I heard that the color of your bike, the 2023, gray/black with red striping was one of the less popular paint schemes for the Voyager. I don't know how that could be...I think it's absolutely beautiful! Love the colors.

The color is what caught my eye and got me to thinking, this is the bike for me 🙂 I've had lot of compliments over the bike but I can see maybe the color isn't for everyone.

@@tanktankerson1042 as we know, color is highly subjective and a very personal and important decision. I don’t change vehicles out often as I tend to keep my motorcycles a long time. I know that I have to be able to more than just live with the color/appearance of my motorcycle. I am currently looking to get a preowned 2023, found one here locally for a good price. It’s bone stock and need to make some changes (Ivan flash, pipes, etc). Besides the Kawasaki reliability, it was the color that pulled me in!

@@Nervedraz I hear you on that, I traded in my 2004 Honda VTX 1300s for the Voyager, I bought it new back in 2004. Great appearance / color and I kept it in mint condition, along with a full service history, which is why I got 4K for it. I paid 8K for it brand new back in 04 when I bought it from the Dealership. Even my 07 Vmax I bought new kept it's value right up to my accident which totaled the bike. I had it for years and paid 11K for it at the dealership, the Insurance pay-off for the bike was $9,400.00 back in my pocket. I tell people, if you take great care of your bikes and provide a service history, you can get a great price for it later. According to my Insurance adjuster, the Vmax is in high demand and a collector's item, it's why I got so much for it. Glad to hear you are buying a 2023, we must have similar taste. I'll have this Voyager for the long run.

@@tanktankerson1042 I was wanting to get your feedback about this comment a guy in the Voyager FB group made about his 2020: “ the performance was dismal, Ivan might help but it seems to work good for some and not others and I believe it will affect warranty. It's a heavy bike and at slow speed felt unstable. The braking system pretty much forces you to use both brakes which I was not a fan of, if you don't there is some kind of vibration encourages you to do so. The technology is more than 10 years old and so far behind other bikes out there, if you buy it cheap enough you might end up happy with it, mine was a left over 202O the dealer couldn't get rid of and I got it at cost and that's why I bought it.”

Thanks for posting the instructions (especially the warning on using a compressor). I adjusted mine yesterday following your instructions and settings, and it makes a huge difference: much better ride.

It would have been nice if you would have shown how to adjust the setting from 2 to 3.

It's just a "thumb wheel" you can move with your thumb. If you open the saddlebag and bend down, you can see under the chrome where the adjustable thumb wheel is. At least Kawasaki made it easy, you don't need a special wrench or other tool. Thanks for the comments.

Hi I'm watching your video right now I just wanted to confirm. You mentioned you only use the kickstand yet the manual I got with my 2023 bike says to jack it up. ? You seem to have been successful any guesses as to why one would have to jack up a bike if you only had to use your kickstand? Thanks

Yes, I had my bike on the kickstand while adjusting the pressure in the springs. Not sure why the manual would say to jack it up but I had no problems the way I did it. The ride improved dramatically after the adjustment. Of course, you can adjust your pressure as you see fit. Thanks for the comments.

So do you have to jack the bike up off the ground or did you do it while on the kickstand?

Well I did mine one the kickstand as well. Gotta be pretty quick to not leak the air. I must say that the 3/30 setting you suggested makes the bike handle so much better, so much more manageable than before. Thanks for this video.

Can you turn the dial by hand or do you need a tool?

There's actually a dial you can turn with your thumb.

i got mine on 15 psi - 1 bar , 30 psi take by me the smooth ride away.

At least you can fine tune it for comfort. With my size and what I carry I have my settings and psi dialed in just right. These bikes are so awesome and fun to ride.
