Hey, this dyno is at the end of an 18 month search for the bike and an 8 month restoration. Planning to post the journey. She’s 30 this year and deserves to have a record of her path back to the track!!

They were such a great looking motorcycle. The 80's was a fantastic decade for motorcycles and each manufacturer had their own style. Those bikes back then were great to look at and ride and had so much more character and soul than bikes today. They all look the same today when back then you could tell the difference at a glance.

Shes a beauty! Love those early striped ZX-7s! My '95 ZX-7 made 105 rwhp stock but after building with a Muzzy superbike kit i got 123 rwhp out of it and with careful tuning and a few tricks we eventually got a solid 134 rwhp from the old girl on Nu-tech special #4 race fuel. That was with a 13,200 to 13,700 rpm rev limit. More was available up top with the $100k Kawasaki Superbike Racing blax box ignition and 15,000 rpm but i didnt want the expense and additional maintenance issues. Fully stripped down to 442 lbs with 3.4 gallons onboard and decked out in 7R race spec with all the best goodies like LE forks, Ohlins rear shock and dampener, AP Locheed brakes, lightweight Dymag wheels, sticky Dunlop slicks i did very well against those Yoshimura Suzukis and Ducatis of the day. The ducks would pull me off the corners but that ram air assisted Kawi four would suck them right on up on long straights. The GSXRs were light and nimble but my Kawi didnt mind one bit. Their turtle shell tail did NOT prevent drafting as claimed i assure you. Won a few races, made the podium a few and rarely finished outside the top 10 or 11 as it were. Sure miss it. Still have dreams about it every now and then.

Rode with a bloke by the name of Gary Dhim, he was a motorcycle mechanic in Ipswich Queensland, Australia (he was probably about 40 yrs old then) made it look easy to slide out around corners, this was back in 1992/3 he had one with a Muzzys exhaust and it was awesome.

@@kawakarma I wonder if it was this bike he owned, or I owned? Darryl Reeks was the bike shop Gary worked in, just on the outskirts of Ipswich Qld, it's now an Archery Shop (I believe that Darryl Reeks was into Archery as well and he may well still own it) As for Gary Dhim, I believe he bought it new from Sth Australia, and rode it Qld where he was working then. He ordered it with an aftermarket exhaust (from memory it was a full Hindle or Muzzy system? not sure, but he said it was offered from that bike shop in Adelaide, from memory?) I bought one after he worked on my Suzuki gsx750 f (the old tea pot model). I asked Gary to check the bike over, so he followed to the buyers and checked it over for me. I bought that H2 from Mt Gravatt area in Brisbane. Gary and did a few rides together and took his bike to Willowbank Raceway fairly regularly (he raced I didn't). I think he was running in the mid 10s. He was a brilliant rider and mechanic. Love to know where he is now days.I was 25 and thought this was the amazing bike I'd ever seen and riden (back in 1994). As for that H2 I had, I traded it in for a ZZR 1100 at Moorooka Yamaha in 1996, biggest mistake of bike ownership (nothing wrong with the big ZZR 1100) just a maturity thing, oh well we live and learn! Thanks for your reply..

just looked up the % loss on 107bhp (crank) these engines make your looking at around 16.67% so 90bhp isn't bad at all - wouldn't take much at all to get that back and make more a simple service can work wonders - correct setup of the chain if that's too tight or loose bhp is lost there - tyre pressures all this may sound trivial but all the little things add up.

Hope this helps, the muffler was made by Pipe Masters, & it a Magnum which was their "deluxe" model & they called that style the Kevlar wrap. Its in good condition as its from the early to mid 90s, it was the start of the "other than ali or stainless" mufflers, but think you find it is just a wrap over an ali can. They made a carbon one too as well as polished ali & stainless. Cheers..........
@kawakarma
@kawakarma 5 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks, great info. It’s certainly just a wrap. Given its from the right era I might just keep it and probably a shame to re-sleeve it as it’s actually in good condition. Have become fond of the sound it puts out too. Cheers

@gassit137 5 жыл бұрын
No worries man, I am in Australia and they (Pipe Masters) were quite popular & fitted many in the 90's. For a bit more useless information, the only difference was the Magnum mufflers had the rolled end on the exit, the standard didn't and they were also available in the Kevlar or Carbon wrap (which looked and had the same texture as the Kevlar but was black) and they had no badge from memory. It took me back, when the H1 ZXR came out was my last year working at a dealer before starting my own shop and vividly remember unpacking the first one out of the box, trick looking thing in there time............thanks for the memories!! Also, although dynos vary & back then was the very first dynojet machine available, but from my memory, a stocker with a noisey pipe and jetting made about a 100, 103 was a good one...... nuf waffle, be nice to it, nice to see one survive so well.................cheers

Hi, I'm no expert by far but I understand it will depend on if you are replacing the full system or just popping on a slip on can. If you're talking about an old ZXR like mine I think you will get away with sticking it on with a tune. If you have a newer bike replacing the stock exhaust with a full system you may have some sensors to blind or reprogram - ie Woolich tune/kit or power commander?!
@kawakarma
@kawakarma 2 жыл бұрын
Google translate - might help or it might just give you a laugh!
