Wow, a melody from my past. Lili Marlene - a beautiful song about a soldier and his lover - but also a truly heartbreaking song in the original German as the soldier first reflects on how long it has been since their two shadows appeared as one beneath the lamplight before, in the last verse, the listener is presented with a scene of the soldier’s ghost rising from the deep earth with such memories of his lover’s kiss, wistfully reflecting on who now would stand beneath the lantern as the mists swirl around - for it is not even clear if, at this point, Lili Marlene is also now gone - the implication being his spirit has stirred many times before in response to memories of their love that can now no longer be realised 😢 Kaya-sama sings this so beautifully.
