My search for water shoes began on my first kayak trip 6 years ago. I started with Chacos. Then Crocs (bad idea in and on the Manistee River), several other name and not name brands but I eventually landed on the same NRS neoprene zip ups your have, 2 years ago. Very functional for portaging too. They can get quite hot in the sun which sucks, but I typically slip them off once I'm cruising. And worst case scenario, there should be some cool water not too far away to dip them in. Love your videos and especially you TX folk's rivers! So cool looking.
@GatewoodBrown
@GatewoodBrown 3 жыл бұрын
Sounds like we took similar paths! The next shows I’m trying will be the astral loyak. I’m thinking they may be a good summer shoe when it’s too hot to wear the nrs boots

@@GatewoodBrown Speaking of the heat...Just got home from a trip in Northern MI and those NRS boots are just far too warm in the summer heat (I can only imagine in TX). On the hunt again lol. I don't think you can beat them in cooler weather though. I also purchased/tried that Ridge Outdoor Gear hammock set up for the first time and have never slept so well in the woods. I see my backpacking tents and sleeping pads moving further back in the closet.

What about safety gear? Simple things like a whistle attached to your life jacket. I also have a belt cutting knife inside my life jackets pocket, like the seat belt cutters for cars, if your jacket snags on something and pins you under water, you wana be able to cut yourself out. I also carry a small first aid kit with the basics. I see alot of people buying green or camo tarps/ tents, but a bright orange or red one is better for visibility when you need to signal for help. Just a few thoughts.

I love your videos!! This summer will be my first time kayak camping and I’m getting super excited and getting great ideas of what to take from your videos. I’ve been through a good number of water shoes and finally found the Merrell Choprock. Check them out they are amazing. I have a crappy ankle so they are great support for hiking. I would love to see how you would pack a sit in kayak without hatches for a 3-4 day trip. Keep up the great videos!!!

Great question! Remote designs is my company so take that into consideration. However, I can be objective about things and shoot you straight. The backpack and dry bags I offer work very well. So far 0 returns or warranty issues. I trust it with my most expensive electronics and have never been let down. The yeti is an awesome bag, no doubt. But if I were to recommend a premium option it would be the fishpond thunderhead series. Just be prepared to spend well over double what you would on remote designs. The fishpond offers more features and keeps gear waterproof just like remote designs. For me, remote designs is a great value proposition if you’re looking to get a dry backpack or roll top.

I need to try to get some of your dry bags man. Gateway can I ask a favor man? Can you keep me up-to-date on the foot wear. I had to stop looking when I was having problems with my feet swelling up. I have to wear something that is opened so I was looking at the Chacos but I could not get my big toe through the toe loop and the one without the toe loop I could not get my foot to fit through the straps because of it being to wide. It really sucks having a extremely very wide foot that is 6 1/2 inches wide from my big toe to my little toe. I'm going to check those teva out that you said. Thanks for another good video man.
