Great video! Just got in to kayak fishing recently at 21, and hope to be 71 like you one day out enjoying the water. Great learning on how to ocean kayak fish!!

There’s definitely hope for you Peter! Honestly the most difficult part for me is not the paddling or being out on the water all day… it’s the end of the day when it’s time to drag the kayak across the sand and then load it on the truck. 🎣😃

thanks for sharing, after watching all your videos on steath kayak, I bought a fusion 480 and started paddling and fishing too, you are the greatest inspiration!
@losthorizonfishing1078 ай бұрын
The Fusion 480 is awesome and can do everything the more expensive Stealths can do. The Fusion 480 is definitely way more impact resistant than the fiberglass models. Do you fish in the Southern California area? Also… thanks for watching my videos. 🎣😃

@@losthorizonfishing107 yes I do, I've been fishing Redondo for rock fish and long beach for halibut, going to hit Dana point and La Jolla. havn't tried surf launching though, but it's on the bucket list!

I watched your video and decided to purchase the equivalent "Garmin Navionics Vision+" relief shading maps for my Garmin UHD 73sv. The maps are coincidentally on sale for $100 off right now. I originally came across your channel due to my obsession with Stealth kayaks, and I picked up a scratch-n-dent Stealth Fisha 500 last fall. It's a little wider/heavier/slower than I would like, but I've been enjoying it. If Stealth could build one in the 35-40lb range similar to some real surfskis, I'd be all over it. Thanks for posting!

Using the Navionics Platinum Plus with Relief Shading, I’m finding structure at my local beach that I previously didn’t know was there. It was definitely worth the money. Right now Stealth’s lightest option is the Elite 530, which weighs in right at 50lbs. I think there’s also a full carbon version of the Elite 530 that’s in the mid 40 pound range. At 71 years old that’s really tempting for me!🎣😃

It takes guts to launch in the surf at Bolsa. Friday was not a small day, either. You deserve all the great fishing you get out there because most aren’t willing to brave that surf launch and landing. I know I’m not!

how much was that navionics? and you should have a dedicated small fish finder cam so people could see what you see on the finder. Good job man keep it up.

The Navionics Platinum Plus Card is $249. I was reluctant to spend the that kind of money, but the relief shading is really amazing. For guys that are into fishing for rock fish… it would be a really awesome tool! I personally am not big on rock fishing, but being able to see an almost photographic image of the bottom as I’m trolling a lure behind the kayak is really cool!🎣😃

Where at Bolsa Chica do you launch from? Do you park your vehicle at Warner and PCH?
@losthorizonfishing1078 ай бұрын
Hi Chris… I park in the state parking lot and launch at Tower 17 at Bolsa Chica State Beach. That’s just a hundred or so yards north of the little jetty.🎣😃
@GrimReaper684408 ай бұрын
I've been watching your channel for awhile now and I've been wanting to try a beach launch at Bolsa Chica. When is it better to launch there. Incoming tide or outgoing tide. And my name is Curtis.
@losthorizonfishing1078 ай бұрын
@@GrimReaper68440Hi Curtis… Kayak surf launches are always easier at Bolsa on really low tides. That’s true for both launching and returning to the beach. On high tides (above 4 feet), Bolsa can be really tricky, because there’s a very steep berm that causes a pretty wild and unpredictable shore break… even when the surf is small. If you watch the end of this video, you’ll see me coming back to the beach and jumping out of the kayak in the shore break. The shorebreak actually washes the kayak a good ways up the berm, which actually makes it easier for me. If you have regular sit on top kayak with your gear exposed, releasing the kayak in the shore break or missing the grab when you hop out can end badly. 🎣😃

Thanks for sharing. I've been to LA Jolla Shores and launched from the surf. Sometimes easy Sometimes not. But I think I'm going to try Bolsa Chica sometime this summer. I have an Oldtown Bigwater 132pdl, it does really well for me... If you don't mind, maybe you and I could go out together at Bolsa Chica, you could show me a thing or two 😉
@losthorizonfishing1078 ай бұрын
@@GrimReaper68440The Oldtown Bigwater 132 is an awesome fishing machine, but it’s also really heavy at 122 pounds with no gear. Bolsa Chica State Beach is nothing like La Jolla. At La Jolla on a 2-3 foot surf day, or smaller, launching and returning to the beach is super easy and the chances of flipping your kayak are really low. At Bolsa Chica flipping your kayak in the surf is almost a certainty. I’ve been launching at Bolsa a lot over the last five years and although I’ve only flipped my Stealth one time during a surf launch, I’ve flipped “many” times coming back to the beach. Even after all those sessions at Bolsa, I still end up in the water 50 percent of the time! I honestly couldn’t imagine launching a big kayak like the Oldtown Bigwater or a Hobie Pro Angler at Bolsa and having to deal with all that weight when the kayak flips upside down in the surf. In the five years I’ve been launching from Bolsa, I’ve never seen another kayak fisherman there, even though it’s a really fun place to fish. I’m not saying you can’t do it or you shouldn’t do it, but you absolutely need to be prepared for the almost certain reality of ending up going down is the surf and then figuring out how to get your 122 pound kayak (+ your gear).back on to the beach. 🎣😃
