Giant Snakehead are found through extreme southeast Asia. They are a highly sought after by anglers for their aggressiveness, their willingness to hit topwater lures, and for their beauty. They are also popular table fare and during my trip in Thailand we often encountered snakehead, of one species or another, on the menu. Giant Snakehead have always captured my attention which is why they have long been on my top 6 bucket list fish I want to catch.
Through much research I identified Lake Mae Ngad as good opportunity to connect with this species. Several floating resorts are available on the lake and some even provide kayaks. I opted to stay at Velaloy Lodge, which for the cost of hotel here in the United States provides luxury lodging, three delicious meals a day, and free access to fishing kayak.
Our stay here was one of the real highlights of my trip and of course I got to check a major bucket list fish off my list while enjoying time with Sidra.

Small giant snakehead. Is that an oxymoron like jumbo shrimp? I once saw 3 bullhead catfish in an aquarium with a slightly longer snakehead. Next time to the store and only 2 catfish. Owner said snakehead ate everything behind the pectoral fins. I understand why they are an unwelcome invasive species.

I am a traveling fisherman as well usually 2 weeks in Mayan riviera a year....and my kokanee at Bridge lake What travel rods and tackle did you bring? I have a travel rod fetish......I just picked up a 500$ custom rod slightly used for 200$!!!....4 piece 9 foot spinning rod on a 9 weight flyrod blank.....really nice action for bigger fish

I had a mix of rods from Fiblink, Santiam, and Swate. I would say none of them are outstanding by any means. I prefer cheaper rods that way if they break or get stolen I don’t really care

@@spiltmilt I have a nice trave surf rod from Diawa..the Ardito, its affordable too 200$,Canadian...11 ft 5 piece rated for 3 to 8 oz.....it will fit in luggage, i paired it with a 5000 Diawa BG and 50 pound braid......saving for a 6500 high speed penn slammer
