Kayak Fishing the Bay for Fluke (summer flounder) on opening day

It felt good to have some time to explore the bay a bit. Didn't mark too much life for a while but then found an area that had a few marks and some bait clouds so I stayed there and mainly jigged the bottom with a small profile for fluke. I do think there were some striped bass around but they were being very picky and I didn't get any hits, even on the troll.

Nice job getting that keeper. I happened to be up here now and tried opening day and got skunked. My bro in law and I hit a striper night time bite in the sound and got some good 34 inchers. Funny we couldn’t get that slot though. Going to try again Tuesday before I head back down south. Hope to get some porgies.

Nice job on the keeper. I fished the same general area a few days before you, same observation on the water temps, marking some bait and def no porgies yet. Tight lines!

Nice job! Question do you have any tips on finding bass and fluke in the bays? Also how late is to late to fluke?

Thanks, I think the key is finding bait as best you can. Bait can be anywhere but most often is around breaks in the current and structure so that’s what I try to look for. You can find fluke in October still but around then they start moving back offshore I think

@@PeterRanieriII Loading yak on truck today. Like you I haven’t been out yet, probably tomorrow morning in NP harbor. Been some light striper action there and CP harbor. Been tied up with other things. My son bought a waterfront home on Kent Island MD on Prospect Bay, prime striper territory. I shipped my boat down there two weeks ago and spent most of April getting it ready and loaded up with 20+ years of equipment and supplies. Hope to catch up fishing locally this month. Have camping trip planned in Montauk end of month.

Fluke just opened here too, and so did the nighttime squid trips. The squid has been fair to good so far, and I already have one such trip booked for Saturday night. And I've had a trip booked out of Plymouth, MA for months now.
