Oh man! Thanks for sharing your great adventure. I was side straddling my kayak pulling up crab pots when all the sudden I heard these loud blows and all the sudden this huge dorsal fin comes up out of the water, then another and another. A whole pod of Orcas swam right through me. I even had one swim upside down under the kayak and swim next to my leaded line. I'll never forget. The icing on the pot was full pots and a limit of keepers!

Nice! I had an amazing day of fishing among the whales last summer, including a visit from J Pod, and I’ll never forget it. Random request: I was thinking of trying to find some winter kokanee this year. I’ve heard that you’re unlikely to limit but you can enjoy emptier lakes, sleep in a little more, and still catch a couple. But some say you have to fish deeper and others say you have to flatline. If you have any tips, that could make for a good vid.
@spiltmilt4 жыл бұрын
It will depend on the lake. Most lakes I am generally fishing deeper in the winter as the fish seek out optimum temperatures. Lake Chelan, Merwin, and Stevens fish well thru the winter and I ice fishing for them on several lakes.

Your filming, editing, and music choice while documenting Whale action is of Cinematography quality. Great fighting fish! That was my experience when catching black rock fish. I counted 7 kept fish, is that the limit? Has been a long time since I last fished Rockfish, in a location where they could be kept in WA State, then the limit was 10. I know it is just me, but the sound of braided line passing through rod guides is very evident, and odd, when compared to no sound of Mono line.

I'm curious if you've ever considered the 120 AutoPilot, expecially for the saltwater part of your work. I've had mine for almost 4 years now and could not be happier. I had one issue with the motor and they replaced it without question. I know others that love this model for saltwater, "Elias V Fishing"for one... and myself... I'm 100% saltwater.

I’m thinking about going to this same area for the next 5 days. Been debating on bringing my 14’ aluminum fishing boat or my kayak. My kayak is a ascend 12t fishing kayak that does not have a pedal drive. I’ll be wearing a wetsuit and practicing all necessary safety precautions. Early morning high tides and slacks this whole week. I’m wondering what you think about the drifting aspect? Do you think I will have a hard time because of drifting and no peddle drive? Should I try a bouy anchor system? Or should I just drift and jig while hoping to not get caught up in the kelp. Thanks!
@spiltmilt2 жыл бұрын
Inside the drift speed isn't too bad especially at slack you won't have any problem and the exchanged are mild. In this case a paddle yak is nice because you drift right over kelp.
@joshinoly212 жыл бұрын
@@spiltmilt , cool! Thank you! So, kelp is productive for rockfish, but for lingcod it’s better to get out over some structure yea? The closest structure is about 1/2 mile out. Which isn’t too far, but not being in a sea kayak I’m wanting to be extra cautious. Thoughts?
