Great video. Got my two kayaks up just like this. Not mentioned: The frame was simple, but took me a little adjusting (up and down the ladder) to get the pulleys in the right place so the ropes would pull straight. Thanks

Great work! For eighty dollars more, you could replace the hand winch with an electric one capable of pulling 220 lbs without block & tackle. Worked well for me.

I looked at one, but there are so many horror stories of the great meeting go and having it crash down in the cars below. I the safety stops would prevent that, but honestly, it’s real east to lift and lower and I have fo fears of it running loose and causing damage.

Can you please provide some sort of drawing on how you ran the lines for the pulleys. This looks like a great system, that I could use for my Kayaks, it would save a lot of time and frustration if you could provide a diagram for the routing of the pulley ropes. Thanks

Great idea. Might I suggest a redundancy like safety chains on the platform once raised. If that rope ever snapped God help anyone standing under the platform.

I added eye hooks with chains and carabiners for quick connect/disconnect abilities. Once the Chains are connected I release the tension from the ropes. The only issue I have experienced since installing this 5 years ago is the rope is slowly twisting under the constant winding of the operation

Hi Vince! Can you please send a link or something to the type of pulley you used? I'm also especially curious about the pulley at the wall above the winch, as you did not show that one. Thanks!!!!

Hello, Let me see what I can do. The Pullys are off the Shelf bully’s from Lowes/Home depot with a 420 working load. Here is the link Blue Hawk Zinc-Plated Wall Mount Pulley Item number Item # 656961. The pully on the wall above the winch is Covert 1-1/2-in HD Pulley, Single Sheave, Swivel Eye with a carbina and a screw eye in the wall.

I went with a design similar to yours but overnight and heavy. In hindsight, I'd go a little beefier than yours, but a lot less than what I used. Since I have an outback and an oasis(14.5 ft) with a sail, I built mine about 6.5ft w by 12ft l. I used four 2x6s padded for the bunks and 3 12ft 2x6s laid horizonal for the frame. It's too heavy and they flex in the center lol.

I’m glad the design was able to help out. I’m getting ready to change the carriage that lifts up the Kayaks, the 2x3’s are still working fine, it’s just I want something with wheels that I can detach the ropes from and wheel out to the drive to assist in loading and unloading from the truck.
@reykennedy5716

I actually did that exact thing! I made it so I can wheel it out to rinse or even place them on a flatbed if I don't want to put them on my roof rack

I tried to copy your design, but when I raise the kayaks it goes out of level, as if some lines are going up faster than others. I can't figure out why. My direction of pull is not on a central axis, just like yours but not as much. It appears that you have extra pulleys in your system. Maybe that is what I am missing?
@ralphbower1138
@ralphbower1138 4 жыл бұрын
I figured it out. The pull on the pulleys has to be symmetrical, side to side, even though that is not clear from your video or your narrative. But thanks for the basic idea.

Did you mount your pulleys with screws or nuts and bolts? I plan on lag screwing a 2x4 to the ceiling to distribute the load but wasnt sure if screws only would hold the pulleys or just go all out with nuts and bolts. Any thought would be helpful. Also thanks for posting your video.
@silver2000tj1
@silver2000tj1 6 жыл бұрын
Hello David, I used 6in lag bolts with washers to attach the 2x6 to the ceiling, and 3in screws to mount the pulley to the board.

Really like this... any chance you could diagram it out or something, or share what hardware you used for pulleys and lever? I'm curious how you connected all the lines together before they connect to the single line? What kind of rope did you use for the lines to the platform, and the main line? Can you provide links to where to buy the pulleys?

Actually I bet you are right one that, I have plans on removing the hand crank and going to a electronic 110 volt winch, I just have not got around to it, as there are so many projects going on currently. But it’s still in the radar.

How/where do the lines from the platform go through the pulleys and then join into one before heading over to the winch pulley?
@silver2000tj1
@silver2000tj1 4 жыл бұрын
Think of it as two loops, the front loop and back loop. The front loop goes from the front left corner, up through the 90 degree fully, and down through the the 90 degree fully on the front right pull. The same applies to the back. The back left and back right are also a singe loop. The two loops are connected to the ratchet line with the rope clamp. Let me know if that helps, I can take some photos if needed.
