KAYAK SAFETY: Winter kayaking - what to expect and prepare for, and how to do it safely

In this video, Patrik Vuorio discusses winter kayaking and the particular challenges and obstacles winter paddlers face, with notes on how to handle these as a kayaker (also applicable for SUP, canoe or packraft paddlers, etc).
If you are new to the concept of winter kayaking, the first thing to know is that cold water temperatures are lethally dangerous and you need to be protected, e.g. wearing a drysuit (or in some conditions a thick wetsuit appropriate for the temperatures you're in), dress for immersion, e.g. not for the air temperature but for handling being in water for a longer period of time, obviously wearing a PFD, and otherwise having proper gear along - see videos below.
The video was filmed unscripted near a paddling launch location in early January 2024 in -8 degrees C.
