I've been kayak fishing since 2013 and he's spot on on everything. If you're looking to buy a kayak, listen to this man. He knows what he's talking about

I agree with your preference of secondary stability. After your live stream on this topic, i decided to cancel my recon 120hd. I'm just going to use my RVR119 for everything because i love how that boat handles. However, i did get a torqeedo for it. I just need to make the system removable for fast water because I'm a whitewater freak also. Excellent content. It will definitely be helpful to new ppl

I went the stability route with the Outlaw. Now I enjoy the act of paddling more than using my Newport. In 2 weeks I’m buying either a Tarpon 120, Kiawah 12.5, or Pescador Pro to add to my Outlaw. I want a Tarpon with a frame seat! lol

Great explanation on stability. I am new to kayak fishing and purchased the Unlimited. Although initial stability is a bit tippy, secondary is excellent and your explanation has me better understanding this design.

Absolutely! I like the secondary that Nucanoe and Bonafide does. They aren't speed kayaks by any means but it really helps turn in tight spaces

Another thing when your on shallow rapids, there will be rocks that will tip any kayak no matter what. If you cant maneuver enough to avoid those rocks, all that stability wont help you. Honestly in my nearly 15 years of kayaking, ive never once tipped that it wasnt a "run up on a rock" situation. Also good to know your bodies effect on your boat. if your a larger kayaker like myself, when you lean, your leaning much more weight than a smaller paddler. And if you overload a kayak with either your butt or your gear, you're gonna loose stability AND maneuverability, easily to the point of making it a useless boat if severely overloaded.

in my case on the video clip of me tipping over, the water grabbed the secondary stability and my "personal gravity" did the rest lol

Other problem is that a heavy boat will likely be used less because it's too much of a chore to put into the water. I'm looking into a old town 119 solo sportsman because of the weight issue. There are nicer rigs that are made out of kevlar and composite but they are too expensive for now.

Some of those lighter weight canoes are not near as durable as say T-Fornex.

Thank you for being honest about the PA14. People think it's the most stable kayak out there, but it has a point of no return and it's not learning that far on a side when it gets there. That said, I'd be okay with it as long as I'm not stepping out of it onto a dock. I upgraded to pedal kayaks for this year and I demo'd everything I could. I ended up going with the Old Town Sportsman Bigwater 132. It was the fastest pedaling fishing kayak I demo'd and also priced fairly and they have good reliability. It's not the most stable, but I have bad balance and you won't find me leaning and I also have a bad back so I don't stand that much between the two. I was able to stand as effectively as I do on my current Bonafide SS127 so it'll do for me.

For Florida lakes and our slow moving water. I am really not moving fast enough to lean into any turns. I have kayak with high primary stability. I still dont feel good standing. Kayaks a best sat in IMO.

I bought my first fishing kayak and the one I'm still using in 2011. It is a Wilderness Ride 135. It has the upgraded high/low seat and a rudder. I have hundreds of hours fishing lakes and reservoirs with it and never even came close to flipping it and I never use the low seat position. I don't stand and fish though. To me this kayak has a little primary stability but pretty good secondary stability which is probably why I never felt great standing in it. I have been considering upgrading lately and the kayak that most peaks my interest is the Native Titan X 12.5. It will probably be the last kayak I ever buy. I'm not really concerned about the out of water weight. I know it's heavy. My concern is have they focused too much on stability with the Titan making it a barge on the water?

The titan has fixed a lot of issues. Its really nimble since they went to the spring loaded rudder. Also fixing the wet deck was a nice touch as well

Hello Andy, I love your videos and the knowledge you share. I wish you would "name names" and give examples of specific issues. I understand you sell these kayaks and it may feel like a conflict of interest, but isn't there more of an internal conflict of not pointing out these flaws (with model names)? After all, this a subjective "opinion" as to how you personally feel about a specific kayak as they apply to you. That doesn't invalidate those opinions. It makes them a data point in our own research. Yes, if you call out a kayak someone owns, they may very well be negative in their response, but then we still have more data points. The way you tiptoe around naming names is what is wrong with "pro-staff" and "sponsorships". They only talk about the positives of their brand, not the shortcomings. You have personal opinions, please share them, both positive and negative. Again, I appreciate your content. You provide a wonderful service to us. I just want to hear honest negative opinions as well. I realize you mentioned the Pro Angler, but I feel like there are others you aren't mentioning. I feel like perhaps you're also talking about the Nucanoe Unlimited, but I don't know, so I'm left to guess.

If you watch my videos i give pros and cons on all kayaks I sell and represent. There is no conflict of interest as there is no "perfect kayak" This is more about the kinds of stability and peoples physical limitations instead of specific kayaks. Rivers and lakes also present more challenges. Thanks for watching!

I’ve been looking at kayaks for rivers and small lakes. I’m a bigger guy weighing 250lbs and this would be my first kayak. I’m really interested in the Nucanoe U10. In the future I would like to add the pivot drive or a Newport motor to it. I would really like your opinion on this kayak, if you think It would be a good fit for me as a beginner? Thank you.

I’ve had mine for 6 months now. It is the most stable kayak on the market. But be aware you are sacrificing speed if you go with a bow mounted Xi3. I’m out for pleasure and comfort so it fits my style of primarily fishing the main lake sections very well. I would not recommend this for creek or river fishing
