That’s an awesome setup! I was planning one similar with some sort of wheels on a track on the outside edge of the drawer so I can pull it out all the way and access the rear. Was going to build it y’all enough for my crate, extra tackle totes, and camping gear and that way everything can go in it and be secured for overnight trips. Also going to put in a place to lock my kayak to the top of the locker so that I can keep an honest person honest. Great ideas seen here that I’ll be using. Thanks for sharing

Thank you. I will be rebuilding the box this year. Unfortunately due to covid it sat under a tarp for 2 years which kept the moisture in. I will be building the new box out of HDPE plastic.

Wow 2024 and I was wondering what my idea would look like.......I was thinking of using a half inch plexiglass with dadoed edges to overlap making it air tight. But this idea is excellent...... Off to home depot ...👍 👍 🇨🇦

As AWESOME as this set-up is I do see one area that would make it better. That would be for you to change the name on the title to my name and let me come pick it up!!! I have seen a ton of ideas shared on You Tue, but this one wins hands down across the board! Thank you Sir for sharing your time and vision here!!!

Thank you. I don't back it into the water. I always put my kayak on cart and wheel it down to the launch. It would take on water if I backed it down in.

How's that birch holding up 2yrs later?
@TimPercyKayakFishing4 жыл бұрын
It's held up very well. I've taken it on numerous trips through some nasty weather. I keep a tarp on it when I store it outside at home, but other than that I haven't had to do anything else. The only issue I've had is the tongue; the factory Malone tongue is thin walled and not designed for the extra weight I added... it folded up on me on the way back from Tennessee...Fortunately there was a metal shop right off the highway that was open and they cut me up a replacement thick wall tongue.

Yes, I've used the BerleyPro mounts with the Lowrance TotalScan transducer and had no issues.

Hi Tim, I scanned through the video, The rod locker is awesome! My trailer is similar and I will back into a lake as often as possible to launch the yaks, the reason I made the trailer. My question is, do you back in to launch and if you do , does the Rod locker fill with water?
@TimPercyKayakFishing6 жыл бұрын
I don't back into the water, it would fill with water if I did. The majority of our launches don't charge kayakers if they wheel their kayaks to the launch, but they will charge you if you back into the launch. I just pull my kayak part way off the trailer, throw the wheels under it and roll to the launch or beach area.
@raxxyyakgear12866 жыл бұрын
That's what I thought you were going to say! lol I am going to revamp the trailer over the winter and being in the NY/NJ area not sure I would "want" to leave that many rods in the trailer anyway. I plan too Use at least 1 8" PVC Schedule 35 Tube -should hold 6 rods. Thinking of a way to insert and have some sort of tip protector and inner guide for them.
@kfs48695 жыл бұрын
Hey Tim, do you leave your kayaks on that trailer with the plastic tube when not in use? And have you noticed any flat spot underneath your kayaks for leaving it on there for long period of time?
@TimPercyKayakFishing5 жыл бұрын
Yes, I leave on the trailer or my kayak cart and I never had an issue.

Do you use the inside of the pvc pipe for any type of storage?
@TimPercyKayakFishing3 жыл бұрын
At first I put my Power-Poles in there, but I found they were getting marked up by the bolts that hold them down, so I've added a couple piece of 1" conduit on each side to store my Power-Poles.

It may have been noted in the video but what size tires are on this trailer( they look to be 12 inch ) and how do they hold up on long distance trips?
@TimPercyKayakFishing6 жыл бұрын
They are 12" tires. The bias ply tires that came with the trailer didn't last...they were coming apart when I got back from my one tournament in Kentucky. I've since replaced the tires with radials.

Wondering how the rod locker is holding up
@TimPercyKayakFishing5 жыл бұрын
Its holding up well. I've had a number of long trips with. The only issue I've had is the tongue on the Malone trailer bent... it's made out of a thinner gauge steel and couldn't handle the weight. The tongue has been replaced with heavier gauge.

@@josephokoren6093 if I remember correctly, I could only reach in so far. I believe I couldn't reach a few in the middle. With the glue and a few brad nails in the middle, its held together just fine.
