Putting the force vector that high is an excellent way to roll your kayak.

Yep your right and I never sit down either. Luckily never took a swim as many trips as I’ve been on.

Thank you for the insight on how to mount my motor
@kennethsmith88443 ай бұрын
I rigged my own mount for a Hobie. Yours might need to be lower so it would not have so much flex! Great job

*I bought this model for my 14 ft Jon boat. **enjoyable.fishing** recommend love it!!! It pushes my boat with ease ( 2 men 220 each). I would highly recommend this to anyone.*

Nice! I would bet you could screw/bolt 1 to 4 small cuts of PVC to the baord to create rod holders.
@TBassFactory3 жыл бұрын
I could totally see you being able to do that. That would be a cool add on. Good idea kevin

great job giving us lots of ideas. One suggestion. Round off both ends of the board and sand them so you dont rip your arm on them the way they sit.

Some color matching paint and you're ready to go. It's going to be interesting to see what goes up in smoke first when you max out the volts on your trolling motor. Switch, wires or motor?
@TBassFactory4 жыл бұрын
Yep, it needs some paint. I'll probably take a 101 thrust lower and screw it on to the shaft and make it 36 volt. Ha

Just picked up a used pelican catch120 and for some reason it's pretty difficult to find a mount. It looks like you have the same model and it seems pretty simple to build. I have a few questions though, why do you need the 90 degree elbows, why not just straight into the pvc? Why does the pvc need to extend so far up and above the kayak? I think the hole was 9in but why not just mount the 2x4 right above the top of the kayak so the wood can rest on the kayak itself? I'm worried about flex in the pvc as my 55lb trolling motor I got used is really heavy (maybe overkill)? I'm new to all this never had a motor or anything. Thanks!
@TBassFactory2 жыл бұрын
I used the 90 because it allows you to line up the bolt holes with the transom board. If you use straight the board will be at an angle. I had a little flex and I put a rope on it and attached a carabiner and clip to the Carey handle on mine and keeps it from flexing with the weight. I hope that helps bud
@billmartin6947 ай бұрын
Don't use 90s use 45s. Glue straight up and add 8 inch risers. Split your paddle and put them in the 8 inch risers. Mount the 2x4 sitting on your kayak deck which makes your mount solid not sitting a foot off the deck on 2 plastic pipes that you already compromised thier integrity. I used two 1.25 inch aluminum pipes straight out of my rod holders and bolted with 1 bolt which makes them move and slide right in assembled. My bracket is pre-assembled and I slide them in and mount my motor and ready to go in seconds. Hope that helps

I have a question, if you you put trolling motor on kayak do you have to register for it?
@TBassFactory4 жыл бұрын
Yes, by law if you have a trolling motor on any watercraft you have to register it. It isn't hard to do, I have registered kayaks and they just need a couple things and it's usually under $50.
@Kamkieng4 жыл бұрын
@@TBassFactory do you have to go to DMV or you can apply it online? Please if you have any information of register kayak trolling motor let know, my state was North Carolina help me out if you dont mind 😅😅

What size pvc did you use ? Great vid 👍Cheers

I believe it was 1.5 inch and it fit perfectly for my rod holders after I made a relief cut, but I've noticed that some other rod holders can be different sized so just make sure and measure unless you have a pelican catch. Hope that helps bud

What determines placement? Front, back, or side?
@TBassFactory4 жыл бұрын
I would have to say weight placement and preference or you can try out different placements and whatever you like best. I set mine up how I had imagined and just went with it.

It is a little flimsy but for as much as it cost, it works good. It possibly could be cross braced. I still use it from time to time. Thanks bill
