Fabulous action by whitewater kayaker Fabrizio "Gass" Capizzo who saved a deer from drowning while paddling with friends on the Candigliano river near San Marino in Italy. The funny part is he almost cares more about the deer than his fellow paddler who swam... :-)

We read too much into animal interactions sometimes but I also wouldn't rush to discount it. I've seen animals grasp that fact that your not hurting them. Many seem more than capable of making decisions based on perceived risk. Ive had rescue cats that were clearly afraid but decided it was worth the risk to get close enough to be touched in order to be fed. And ive seen others that would starve to death before they would willingly put themselves within range of anything they feared. Its quite common in a few local parks for deer to let people walk right up almost close enough to touch so its not impossible that this deer was equally comfortable with humans and decided it was worth the risk to avoid drowning. A kayaker might look like a weird human but he likely smells like all the rest of us do to a deer ;)

Basically, my dad helped guide this dude through to the other side of the street. The guy kept falling and cursing, and my dad said he smelt terrible. When they finally got to the sidewalk, the dude ain't even say thank you. He started bitching about being on the wrong side. Lol

@@TheArchiveOfWonder In the past I would have agreed with you. But when they bring these animals to the slaughter houses is hell on earth (many times the transport is similar). Innocent animals don't deserve that, and when humans appear in equation, animals always suffer big time. On the other hand have mans tend to downgrade the intelligence of animals meanwhile researchers reveal one after another how they try to find compassion in each other at least where the human plays the role of evil. And for what? For 5 minutes of oxytocin. I feel bad that I did not nor in a more developed age (that we may never reach looking at today's happenings) where killing or abusing animals would be punishable just like crimes against other humans. It was cold out, raining, so we brought her inside, put her on a dish on the stove with some raw honey. She warmed up, perked up and we let her go. One tiny bee, but it felt so good. If anyone is interested: At the beginning of the video he warns his friends to notice the deer, for most of the video he tells the deer to to climb the rocks until he finally reaches him, at that point he tells It to stay still and to relax. When he gets to the rocks his friends tell him to wait for them and one of them talks about how beautiful it is, then they coordinate in order to take it on land. At the end of the video he asks for his friend to be careful about the way he's carrying it, after that they are trying to warm it while looking out for broken bones (they have a conversation about how deers have fragile bones and it took some hits on the rocks) and finally they decide to try to let it free to check if it can walk, while the third friend asks them to smile for the picture. This is a nice example of the good heart italians have :)

Right on guys. Makes you feel good when you save an animal doesn't it? I quit hunting at 20. I'm knocking on 70 now.
@mustafam956
@mustafam956 4 жыл бұрын
I started hunting at 26. But I’ll stop the day it doesn’t hurt my soul to harvest an animal. It’s hard to describe, but my appreciation of our fellow creatures has increased as I spend time observing them in wild places in nature. A successful hunt is bittersweet and always should be. I’m glad I started late r because I don’t take it for granted and had an adult ethical and moral framework to handle it. I was no stranger to how meat gets made, but hunting makes it more visceral than even spending time on a farm. Those creatures are free and not destined to die by human hands, unlike sheep and chickens. As a hunter you enter their world as an actor and become another predator. But there is no guarantee of success, so there is fairness. A fairness not evident at the slaughterhouse. It requires wits and toughness and most of all patience. You are conscious of your existence as a human animal when you do this basic instinctual activity. But it also gives you greater appreciation for the fragility of life, and it’s preciousness. You stop taking the food and all that goes into making it for granted. Gratefulness and humility are natural outcomes. As an ethical hunter, you should avoid taking a shot unless it will be a humane and quick kill for both practical and most of all moral reasons. I also cut down my weekly meat consumption after beginning hunting and I’m not sure why tbh. Less fast food and junk meat to pass the time.

@mustafam956

Samy Arabi my friend, farm animals raised for meat are by definition... destined to die. Their only purpose of existence is to provide meat. They cannot even survive in the wild if freed from their bondage as they are totally reliant on humans to nourish them and protect them. Domestication has made them docile. All because they serve the purpose to be meat. And the process is ugly: quality of life is often poor and unnatural, and the end often brutal. The irony is that this morbid destiny is the only reason millions of farm animals like chickens, sheep and pigs even get to experience life in the first place-without profit no-one would bear the costs of raising them. Not to mention the environmental impact. My point was hunting wild game is a little different because though life for those creatures is violent, brutal, and short death is usually at the claws of another creature. As a human hunter you enter this ecosystem and become a direct part of a food chain again, that agriculture has allowed many of us to avoid. But at least in hunting there is fairness, and the creatures you consume have lead natural lives, and meet swift ends if you know what you are doing.

He was probably hypothermic. That water look like glacial melt! Even if he had reached a reasonably good place to get out, he probably couldn't have done it at that point! The body sacrifices control of the limbs, to keep vital organs functioning.

When I was at rehab we had days where we would go out and do some fun activity. It was my last week activity and we went canoeing. Me and our group leader were in front of the other people in our group when we spotted a little fawn deer swimming on the side of the river bank. It was looking for a way to get up but couldn’t due to the high walls. It ended up getting caught in some bushes by an area where it could get out. For some reason it just sat there and we paddled to where it was. I climbed out of the canoe onto the bank and lifted the baby out. It was calm but then it started crying and I let it down and it ran off. It would of drown cause it was all tangled up and didn’t make an effort to try and get out. I won’t ever forget that memory.

The poor deer was so tired that he didn't fight that much when the man brought him on the Kayak. But, it was not there totaly cool with it. I read many comments saying that the deer was calm, it wasn't. As you, I couldn't see that much, but I'm italian and the man repeated many time to stay calm and still so it was obviously fighting a little, especially when they were near the sides. Didn't meant to brag, by the way, just to make everyone understand a little more what's actually happening

Scared yes, but aware help was there. White water rafting, kayaking? Falling out would scare anyone. Ask anyone who has been flung from the raft, or flipped upside down in a Kayak? That deer had two choices, die or take a chance. Animals are way smarter than you give credit for, and your reasoning was off. And I have done animal rescue for years. Most turn, look back to thank you, and then take off.

Hey, man, i love nature and i saved many young animals in situations like that, just because i could avoid death or suffering then. If i could help, i do, and i don't feel pride of being a "great man" for that, but i ate animals too, even in my country i killed goats to be shared with family and friends and i never enjoy this just for kill something, i'm not a killer. I respect you if you're vegan; i hate how industry massively kill and make suffer animals too, but i'm not a "fake" person. I take what nature gives to me. Many people hates to see slaughteting calfs but they don't have any problem to eat it, even people who refused to eat animals belongs to societies benefited by this activities. Maybe we all should be less fundamentalist. Not everything is a matter of black or white. To kill people, yes it is, even to kill animals just for pleasure, but to kill animals with respect for feed it is not a sin.
