Wow, two big mistakes and absolute no-gos at once! 1) You see how much scrub and trees are in the water - an absolute nogo to kajak if you love your life. 2) Never go alone in whitewater. Always have a second kajaker or at least some safety people espacially at those dangerous points. You had more than luck my friend!

I thought I'd land on the tree, but it wasn't, but trees are always in a stream, that's not a no-go. Pretty much everyone drives alone, you hardly get to drive otherwise, that's not a no-go, but it depends on what. Everything went well ;)

@@mayrbmx In my 10 years of intense kayaking i never did a ride alone - even in decent wildwatter. We've had several situations where a helping hand was needed - on decent rivers where we never thought something bad can happen. Or if you got stuck in whirlpool and jumped out of the boat - where somebody catches your paddle or kajak before it goes down the river alone. On critical passages with trees or syphons i always wanted to have some security paddlers with ropes standing by. No risk - more often fun! ;-) But luckily you are up well. Good luck for your next tours!

Why is everyone hating. Well executed self resque, glad you are ok man.
@scheisstag4 ай бұрын
Because he got stuck at 0:07 and out at 0:55. Thats 48 seconds. No problem with the head above the water. Probably deadly with the head under water and the body working. Under this conditions you cant keep your breath for 3 minutes. And it was only a matter of luck in which position he got stuck. So he survived by sheer luck. Was it avoidable? Totally by spotting. He just entered the river as you can see at 0:01. And you dont need a second person for any kind of whitewater. I did a month long solo whitewater level 4 trip in Canada myself, with all the stuff for my survival in the wilderness in the boat. And also on a river with a lot of trees. But here are four additional risk factors involved: 1. its a tiny creek. 2. there are logs (not only stones.) He is doing it solo. He deliberately aims for the risky spots instead of scouting and avoiding them. (In my case I avoided 1 and 4) So this makes getting stuck not only possible but very likely. In this case you should bring optimal means to get unstuck. And optimal means: more options than only self rescue. And I would say without hating: if you cant see that, you should probably also stick to trips with several other persons. Because your own ability for risk assessment has still some room for improvement.
