I have watched almost all your videos. No 30 second music montage intro, no blabbing about stuff that is not relevant. You are extremely informative, videos and info is well explained and laid out. Thank you for all your videos

Thanks for the detailed construction points. This is the next mod I'm planning for my yak. For most of the shallow freshwater bass fishing I do, I'm considering a gallon milk jug filled with sand as an anchor option. Probably sufficient to hold the kayak in water 6' deep or less with little wind and no current. Much quieter than a metal anchor. I do have a metal anchor for inshore saltwater fishing where there's wind and/or current.

Interesting option! Let me know how it works! I feel I need the claw to hold in moving tide.

Great hack. With all the stumps, brush and other obstructions in the ponds here in Massachusetts I went the cheap route and use a 2lb. coated dumbbell that I purchased from Wal-Mart. It is attached to a retractable clothes line reel that has paracord in place of the original line. It works well and if it ever gets hung up I can cut the line, tie it off on the reel or crate and replace it for under 5 bucks.

Since the mid-90's, I've been using a collapsible 4-spade anchor with a screw base. It's held in high current at Longboat Pass and never let me down. Now, I prefer my 5.5' anchor pole on the flats and drop it right through a scupper. It's the perfect length & easily stowable.
@KayakhacksFishing3 жыл бұрын
Sounds good. Be careful about putting the pole through a scupper. I have been told the scupper is the weakest part of the kayak and could crack under pressure.

Quick tip/hack to store your collapsible anchor on the kayak: use an empty 32 oz yogurt container. Drill a few holes in the bottom for drainage, and a few on the side so you can use zip ties to connect to a corner of your milk crate to keep it upright. This has worked like a charm for me for a couple years now.

I use an extension cord holder to hold my anchor line. Cheap from Walmart

Make sure to use the 18lb zip ties on the anchor. If you use one any bigger you will probably flip the kayak before you break the zip tie.

Having never seen the dive real option I am curious, how do you set the anchor length? I wonder what stops it spooling more out. The other question that has sprung to mind watching this series is the trolley system. What is stopping the ring from being dragged to one or the other end of the boat with wind or current pulling you? I always thought the trolley line went through the cleat. These might be simple questions but I am just a novice fisherman here.
@KayakhacksFishing3 жыл бұрын
There is a clip that holds the line at a certain length. You can see it on the product picture on Amazon - amzn.to/3G6M2pe - In terms of your second question, the tension of the anchor trolley keeps the ring in place. I do not have any experience in a really fast moving current - but in moderate current and wind, there is no issue. Frankly, if the current is really fast, you would anchor directly to the front and rear anyway - so there would be no slip. Anchoring with the tension to the side in high current might cause your kayak to flip as the strong rush of water hits the side.

I use the claw style with a short chain n cable ties . Paracord 50ft. Some of the lakes I fish need to add 50 ft extra. Some spots 80ft.

Great explanation as ever, thanks! Have you ever tried the power lift method on your anchor? With motorboats you add a buoy to the line, pull the anchor up by traveling past it and then retrieve line letting buoy hold anchor at the surface. Might work better for pedal drive/trolling motor rigged kayak, but seems doable for regular as well. Gale Force Twins have a great video on the concept with an “anchor ball”
@KayakhacksFishing3 жыл бұрын
Great suggestion! I have not tried that.

Wondering if you ever heard of the anchor wizard .. I have one and it seems perfect. I love it
@KayakhacksFishing3 жыл бұрын
I just looked it up. Beyond the price, is there a way to release the anchor when you get in trouble?
@plaurence113 жыл бұрын
IMHO, use the Anchor Wizard. Works great. Use it with or without an anchor trolley.

I will check it out.

what is not mentioned is that the the float and the dive reel are in the water in front of the trolley ring, correct. That is the only way it would work if you have to cut free.
@KayakhacksFishing4 ай бұрын
Yes, sorry I did not make that clear.
@wolfgang21263 жыл бұрын
You said the line between the cleat and float should be 2 feet longer than the distance between the cleat and the furthest point of the trolly. But don’t you need to add some more length for the rope used to tie to the cleat? That could add another foot or so.
@KayakhacksFishing3 жыл бұрын
The 2 feet is on the other end - from the end of the trolley to the float. Sorry for the confusion.

I have a mushroom anchor I use only when staying in the same place is not essential. It will drag. I use Danforth and wreck anchors in my outboards. Some people use a window counterweight for controlled drifts where you want to drift slowly along. I guess the weight for a Cuckoo Clock or an old grandfather clock would work just as well.
