Kayaking Horseshoe Bend with Kids in Intex Inflatable Kayaks| Through the Eyes of our Tribe
This will be a lengthly description, but hopefully it contains all of the details you'd love to have it you're planning to make this trip yourself. This trip was from Petroglyph Beach to Lees Ferrry, which is part of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. Interestingly, if you float past Lees Ferry, you have officially entered the Grand Canyon.
The day that we kayaked, the river was at 9 feet, the water was flowing at 10,000 ft3/sec., and the temperature of the water was 49 degrees. I share all of this with you because your experience may be very different based on what the height and flow is when you're planning your trip. The water is a pretty consistent temperature...according to the NPS website, the Colorado river averages 46 degrees below the Glen Canyon Dam. As I'm typing this, the current flow is 18,300 ft3/sec. and the gage (yes that's how they spell it and I misspelled it in the video) height is 10.3 ft. All of this information can be found at waterdata.usgs.gov or by searching the "Colorado River Flow Rate at Lees Ferry."

Here’s how our day went:
🛶 1:20pm We arrive at Lee’s Ferry Landing to unload and
set up our Intex inflatable kayaks
🛶 2:00pm Board backhaul water taxi
(Wilderness River Adventures)
🛶 2:45pm Get off taxi at Petroglyph Beach and start our
10 mile paddle back to Lee’s Ferry
🛶 7:00pm Arrive back to Lee’s Ferry very tired and happy!
