That round piece of pottery could be a weight lid for making sauerkraut. The cabbage was sliced, than stuffed into a big kind of pot made from pottery mixed with salt. On top it got a piece of fabric, mostly linnen and the weight lid goes on top of all with water or the juice from the cabbage.

Simon with regard to the fragment of perforated disc shaped pottery you found. I remember my mother scalding cream in a large pot when I was a lad and she used a ceramic disc with a spiral pattern on the side that faced down with a hole at the centre of the spiral to stop the liquid from boiling up all frothy, as milk does.

Just a cross-not a crucifix unless it portrays Christ on the cross. When you found the first 3 coins, I saw a fourth a bit further to the right. I would sure pick up and take a Tudor brick if I found one. I enjoy your on the moment narration and Nic does a really fine job with this part too. I'm guessing ur near some old pottery building. At 12:08 its my opinion the piece of ceramic with all the holes in it was used st the bottom of a kiln. What the greenware (As of yet unfired clay) was placed on in the kiln so the new piece would not stick to the kiln itself during firing.

Looks like petrified wood to me too; I think you nailed it. And I'm wondering if your pierced piece of pottery might be part of a cheese- or butter-mold, what with that weight you came up with-- was there a dairy nearby? The holes were put in such molds to allow the whey to be pressed out. Have to say, though, I really liked your pottery furniture! I've used exactly the same sort of stuff when firing pots, and it was neat to see similar emerging from the Thames.
