It's oddly ironic how the western media talks about South Africa as a failing state (and no doubt, South Africa has a LOT of major issues), but then I come across videos like this that showcase modern freeways that are better-designed than in a number of US states or even other fully developed countries. South Africa seems like a country of extreme contrasts.

It is once you leave Gauteng province. Even Gauteng is fine as long as you stay on the freeway. I prefer daytime drive but nighttime drive can be fun if you're good with directions.
