Clarification, Adam and Jamie of Mythbusters didn't dislike each other, they just weren't friends. The way I understand it, they were coworkers who worked well together and sometimes that's just how it is!

i think that is why mythbusters could last so long, they were coworkers, so they could deal with things like coworkers
@kezia8027

yes thank you! It's kinda frustrating how long this myth has gone un-busted! Adam has gone on record multiple times to state that they did NOT hate each other or anything of the sort, just that at the end of the day when they wrapped up, they weren't hanging out as friends. They were coworkers and nothing more. I think people just WANTED to believe that there was something more there, because 'coworkers' is kind of a boring story behind one of the worlds most famous duos.

@BaileyVogtOut 9 ай бұрын
I think part of the reason people say they “didn’t like each other” is cause Adam has discussed their scientific process as effective but wasn’t very friendly. They balanced each other well but it was more combative than collaborative. But this is the internet and that doesn’t fit in a tweet so it became they 100% hate each other
@ObsidianNebula00

Adam has talked about his and Jamie's work together a lot on his Tested channel, and he does say they didn't jive well enough to hang outside of work, but that they didn't hate each other. In fact, you can tell from how he talks about Jamie that he has a lot of respect for him. While they sometimes butted heads, as colleagues do, he feels that they were a very good team, and I don't think he's ever uttered a bad word about Jamie.

I sat behind Michael B Jordan at a basketball game once and the guy that was next to me was being very annoying (chirping at players, almost getting into a shouting match with Pat Beverly, trying to rope me into it, etc) and at a point I asked for Michael B Jordan to take a picture with me and my now wife, which he obliged. The dude next to me then asked him for a pic and he looked him dead in the eyes and said “sorry I have to go, but watch Creed tho!” and walked away

My most interesting celebrity encounter was meeting Dove Cameron in a makeup trailer on Schmigadoon Season 2. We were both having our makeup removed at the same time and I had a chance to quickly say hello and have a short chat on my way out. She was absolutely lovely. I was a cut away in a musical number in the first episode, in drag, if anyone wants proof.

Particularly from his little show, with the episode starring the Pink Sauce lady and a woman who reviewed the sauce, Karamo gave me the big ick. I also recall an episode of Queer Eye when he “helped” a guy who was wheelchair bound and it didn’t really seem like he helped him more so he milked him for television drama/a sob story.

I was working on a show in northern Norway in 2018. It was in a teeny town, and it had been just locals and our crew, but one night at a pub in town there were several other Americans, and we were all like "What are YOU doing here!?" I chatted with one of the production coordinators, and it turns out they were filming The Sunlit Night. She called across the bar, "Jenny! This is one of the people from the show!" and Jenny Slate looks over, waves and smiles, and says "HEY GIRLLL!!" She came over and we talked for a minute. She was SO sweet!

omg the tiktok guy sharing all the allegations is the same guy who went off on mikayla nogueira. basically she said she would give him free promo for his tanning product and never got around to it. he bought thousands of dollars worth of his product to sell bc he was expecting her free review for him, and went on a social media rampage attacking her character, saying she lost him thousands of dollars. i disagree with some things she’s done, but the guy is clearly a huge clout chaser. i think sharing info in regards to sa is a really shitty thing to do when you don’t have any consent from the people it actually happened to. and i sincerely doubt this is about speaking truth to power from how gleeful he is about sharing it.

Sometimes a life coach is what people need. Therapy requires a lot of professional boundaries. Karamo is expectedly UNprofessional (which is not bad; it's called "being casual") he befriends them, speaks colloquially, and gives tough advice. When I did therapy, it was mostly questions, maybe a few tools to help me process thoughts, but I never got any advice on what choices were better for me. Maybe someone like Karamo was what I needed then. Anyway, he says he worked as a social worker for a decade. Antoni doesn't need a culinary degree to do his job. And no one questions whether Bobby went to design school or not. Why is Karamo an issue?

Karamo is a social worker, which can be licensed as a therapist, but I’m 99% sure he’s not licensed. Also, as someone who is a licensed therapist, those licenses don’t transfer from state to state, so he couldn’t technically be acting as a therapist as they travel around the country. So yes, and no to this. Also, yeah, I’m not surprised Bobby left and I don’t blame him at all !

This is a legitimate question, not shade: did Karamo ever apologize to the woman he gaslit on his show for critiquing the Pink Sauce Lady? Like she was legitimately trying to help the Pink Sauce Lady with a video critique and then he brought her on his show and tried to convince everyone that she was in the wrong for trying to help. Right after the clip hit KZbin it seemed like he just tried to sweep it under the rug and acted like nothing happened…

If it’s the “apology” I’m thinking of, it was pretty much a non-apology and it seemed like he only did it because of the negative publicity he was receiving. I hadn’t realized he was a Queer Eye cast member initially but it explains the huge amount of backlash he received over his actions. From my recollection the ending of that whole thing left a bad taste in my mouth about him as a person. It’s come back up again recently due to the pink sauce lady promoting a blue sauce and apparently blocking the woman who was brought on the show.

I've always felt the mental health/life coaching component of the new Queer Eye was a win/loss. On one hand it showed a progression from just looking good to also pursuing an m.o. that makes you FEEL good, and addressing aspects of your life inevitably influencing your outer style. But at the end of the day none of them are licensed therapists or specialists and many of the people they featured on the episodes have legitimate issues that aren't going away once the credits roll. When I learned that none of the Fab 5 keep in touch with the people they help, it made the whole gimmick seem even more performative and hard to invest in.
@inventedcool1076
@inventedcool1076 9 ай бұрын
I think an expectation they would keep in touch with those people is kind of weird. Why would they? They are TV personalities, not - to your point - therapists. If anything, I think the *show* has a responsibility to keep in touch both to offer additional support if issues arise as a result of the effects the show imposed on the clients' lives, but also as an opportunity to revisit the client if something interesting happened as a result of the show's impacts (or to revisit if the client still needs help and is open to trying again). I also feel the show has a responsibility to have some kind of mental health professional there to not only guide Kuramo through some of his conversations, but also to make sure the clients are doing ok throughout the overall process. The level of change being initiated there could be a little traumatic or scary to people, especially those who have been set in there ways so long and have an aversion to change.

@@inventedcool1076 The expectation doesn’t come out of thin air, it’s set up by the show itself. They said in interviews after the first season that they did keep in touch so it was kind of used as marketing for the first season. And it’s also the way they present their relationships with the people they help in the show itself. The depth of the connection they try to convince us that they have made makes it seem weird that they wouldn’t keep in touch - that’s why it feels performative and manipulative that they don’t. I mean at the end of the day these are 5 people with very different personalities and backgrounds. It makes sense to me that some people kind of gravitated towards each other like Antoni and Tan because they have similar friendship circles and probably have similar goals/what they want to do with their celebrity. I don't think it's as nasty as people are making it out to be. Even looking back on old interviews and how they started, this could have been a launch pad for them to do other things which I'm not mad at them for. I can still enjoy the show and acknowledge that some people have bigger goals. I think since Bobby's role is more time consuming, he might have a design show or something in that space and it's super time consuming so I don't blame him if he feels like he should leave to do that. He'd be pushing forgiveness on people who went through serious trauma/abuse/etc. like the people who hurt them were entitled to it. That's potentially more harmful than the initial trauma itself. He was also extremely preachy and I can never take anyone seriously who can only give advice by relating it to their own experiences. He always just seemed fake to me. I mean the whole show is but him especially so imagine my surprise when he got a talk show. I don't have much of an opinion on Bobby as a person but regarding his contribution to the show, he always did way more than the others so I don't blame him for leaving one bit. From what I understand of the show, it's not Netflix's team who does the house work, it's BOBBY'S team - and we are talking about Netflix, they WILL cut corners whenever possible. This is not a show from a big established channel that has tons of money from advertisements in the back burner, it's Netflix, and they will not afford anything that is not the bare minimum necessary for a show. Queer Eye is a reality show, it has already a very low budget to begin with. To think they would hire someone to just front as a designer and not actually do the work is giving Netflix more money than they are willing to spend on their content. They couldn't even hire a qualified therapist to do Karamo's job and that dude has like a 50% rate of putting his foot in his mouth BECAUSE he's not a qualified therapist.

@@LunaWitcherArt girl is reality tv. Stop believing everything you see, specially the people who are working on the show and not the contestants. They are the face of the show you would not see the show if the concept was not queer eye. It is important that you like their personality and their group dinamic. It is a show.

I don’t really understand how people got into this show when one episode played out Karamo getting pulled over by a cop as a gag…
@peacechickification
@peacechickification 8 ай бұрын
Because they addressed it. From what I remember, he sat down with the cop and was like ‘I get that was funny to y’all, but I was fucking scared for my life and please understand that you have that type of power over people, please wield it wisely’. I thought it was a good moment; but it’s been years since I watched it.

Ever since the Pink Sauce lady thing…I kinda feel that Karamo may not be the best person to discuss issues because he usually work things with people without researching or even understanding the context of the issue…Bobby and JVN i think are the only ones who I think really knows their sh*t…or at least shows they have real life experiences of providing the same services as presented in the show…

I've loved JVN since their show Gay of Thrones, where they would recap Game of Thrones episodes while doing someone's hair. They were hilarious. And someone I follow on TikTok met them in real life and said they were a total sweetheart. That said, I never put much stock in when someone says they met a celebrity and they were awful (unless they're always awful) because anybody could have a bad day. And being famous has to be annoying at times. You think you're the first person to approach them that day asking for an autograph or a selfie, but really, you're the 500th, and everyone hits a limit. People seem to think being rich and/or famous means you should never be in a bad mood, never have bad days, must always be happy and positive, no matter what's going on, and that's a weird expectation. Also, I always found Karamo's segments on the show a little bit useless. I mean, yes, some of those people could benefit from therapy/counseling, but he's neither, and that's not something that could be achieved in a week. Bobby was absolutely doing the lion's share of the work, so he might as well spin that into his own show. Sad to hear he's leaving though. Whether they're friends in real life or not, on camera, the five of them worked, and I'll miss that blend.

What sold Karamo to me was when he was in New Orleans doing the fraternity episode and he talked about toxic masculinity, taught the boys brotherhood and encouraged them to cry / open up because its crucial to not bottle up their emotions. I didnt realize he was so controversial until recently I started seeing his drama pop up everywhere

I was obsessed with them during 2020 (or was it 2021? It’s all a blur now) and binged the whole series (the seasons that were available at the time anyway) and watched every single interview of them as a group. I loved the force that all of them brought when appearing as an entourage - it felt powerful, fabulous, and so confidently queer. But even then, I could sense something bubbling beneath it all, especially with the cast themselves admitting that Karamo and Bobby were very close and hung out with each other all the time in LA, and the other 3 the same but in NYC. There was also mention of an ongoing feud between Karamo and Antoni in Season 1 behind the scenes, as well as rumours of JVN being a drama queen with production. Tbh, all of that tracks lol.

I have the most respect for Bobby and Tan -- they just get on with what they need to do, above the drama. Fave celebrity encounter: Chris Colfer, star of Glee and children's book author. Super sweet to my kids at the book signings, off-the-cuff funny, and full of light.

okay but coming out on tiktok with what you overheard from a castmate venting to people they had a personal relationship with is really fucked up. yeah if any of my friends came out with everything ive said about my coworkers i would sound petty and desperate because it's nice/fun to let off steam and pin the stress of the job onto people you work with in private, doesnt mean I actually go through my day feeling that way or that we cant have a productive working relationship anyway

This is more related to the mythbusters thing than the whole video but I’m tired of not being friends with your coworkers being seen as shocking or odd. Like yeah they worked together for a long time but that doesn’t guarantee a friendship. I have lots of coworkers I love working with and professionally trust with my life but would never want to hang out outside of work, even after years. Some of them were friends but even when they weren’t they respected each other as coworkers and professionals and honestly you do you keeping personal and business relationships separate if you want.
